Love smoothies, but hate the hassle of making them every morning? You’ll love these easy make-ahead smoothie recipes made in freezer packs!
Some days time is running low, but that doesn’t mean that you need to skip out on nourishing your body. With a little bit of prep, you can stock your freezer with these smoothie recipes in ziplock packs.
Each pack is a single serving smoothie ready to be popped into a blender. Add a cup of liquid and within seconds you have yourself a delicious and nutritious drink!
Depending on the quality of your blender you may have to add more than 1 cup of liquid. Start with 1 cup and slowly add more if your blender seems to be having trouble turning your ingredients into a delicious smoothie.
How to make prep make-ahead smoothie freezer packs
Start by washing, peeling, and cubing all of your fruit and greens.
Then, measure out any dry ingredients to go in your smoothie (protein powder, hemp seeds, chia seeds, spirulina powder, etc.). I love packing as much goodness into my smoothies as possible!
Do not add your liquid to the freezer bags. You’ll add it when you make your smoothie. Tip: I like to write the liquid measurement on the freezer bag with a sharpie.
Make sure you’re using Ziploc Freezer Bags, or reusable bags that are freezer safe!
Tips for making a healthy smoothie
One the main reasons we make smoothies is for our health so It’s important to you choose quality ingredients to make your smoothie packs. Here are some tips to help you create your own healthy smoothie recipes:
- Use organic ingredients as often as possible.
- Add healthy fats like avocado, coconut, and almond butter to help your body absorb the fat-soluble vitamins from the veggies in your smoothie.
- Switch up your greens! Some veggies are high in oxalates and shouldn’t be eaten raw everyday. Add wheat grass, collard greens, lettuce or broccoli to your smoothie recipes to mix things up and to keep your oxalate intake low.
- Add protein! If you drink your smoothie as a meal replacement you should consider adding protein to help you stay full and satiated. Brown rice protein powder, pea protein powder (Both vegan) or collagen peptides (Paleo) are excellent protein powders to add to smoothies.

great idea about freezing packs ready to blend. Here is a all round vitamin and mineral booster. banana, pineapple, spinach, kiwi, red pepper, lemon juice. Blend thin out with fresh orange juice or coconut water. yum

That sounds incredible. Thanks for sharing, Carolann!
Sara
These look great – would it work to blend all of the ingredients together and then freeze?
Erin Higa
Thanks, Sara! Yes, you could do that. Just make sure you give it lots of time to thaw before you plan to drink it.

Great recipes! I just bookmarked this page to add to my growing list of freezer-friendly recipes. Aside from smoothies, there are a ton of different meals that can be cooked and frozen, so that meals are mapped out for the future. This method has saved my family a lot of money, and we’re eating healthier too!

Hi Sean! I love broccoli sprouts. Here’s a simple recipe I think kids will like:
Broccoli Sprout Smoothie
– 1 cup fresh broccoli sprouts
– 1 banana
– 1 cup frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
– 1 cup spinach (optional, for extra greens)
– 1 cup almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
– 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
– 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (optional, for extra creaminess and protein)
Erin Higa

Are you freezing the avocado too? I thought about throwing in the flaxseed and other super foods I use in my smoothies into the freezer bag as well. along with nuts and seeds. See any reason why I shouldn’t?
Erin Higa
Yes, the avocados get frozen too! I don’t see any reason why you can’t freeze the nuts/seeds/other superfoods. They will still be very nutritious!
