Intro

I’ll be the first to admit it: I love chips (who doesn’t?).
Potato chips, tortilla chips, kettle cooked — I’m not picky.
And judging by the snack aisle at any grocery store across the country, I’m clearly not alone.
But what chip brand do Americans love most?
Well, it turns out we have information on this…

Intro (continued)

Thanks to the folks over at YouGov, we now have some fresh insight into which chip brands Americans know — and actually like.
This list is based on Q1 2025 survey data, ranking chip brands by two things: 1) how many people have heard of them, and 2) how many of those people have a positive opinion.
So if you’ve ever wondered whether more people prefer Lay’s or Doritos — this should settle it (spoiler: neither took the top spot).
And yes, I’m personally offended that SunChips didn’t make the cut.
But anyway… let’s get to the rankings.

#10: Kettle Brand Chips

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 87%
Percent of Americans who like it: 62%
My take: People either love or hate kettle cooked chips, so it makes sense they barely squeaked into the top 10. Personally, I’m team kettle — they’re my go-to when I’m grabbing a bag to go with sandwiches. The honey dijon flavor? Elite.

#9: Lay’s Kettle Cooked

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 91%
Percent who like it: 63%
My take: And here we are with more kettle cooked chips. These hit harder than regular Lay’s, in my opinion. If you’ve ever had the jalapeño ones, you know. Thicker crunch, more oil, and somehow they just feel fancier.

#8: Ruffles

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 94%
Percent who like it: 70%
My take:I’m actually shocked Ruffles didn’t land higher. Maybe people just haven’t experienced the joy of All Dressed? The ridges are perfect for dips, and the cheddar & sour cream flavor is iconic.

#7: Tostitos

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 96%
Percent who like it: 72%
My take: Everyone goes through a tortilla chip phase at some point, right? Tostitos Scoops are basically engineered for guac — and let’s be honest, they’re usually the first thing to disappear at a party.

#6: Lay’s

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 98%
Percent who like it: 73%
My take: I grew up on the OG yellow bag of Lay’s, so they’ll always have a special place in my heart. These days, they’re great with sandwiches — and honestly, even better in sandwiches.

#5: Fritos

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent who like it: 74%
My take: I’ll admit I only crave Fritos about once a year… but when I do, nothing else will do – specifically the BBQ flavor, but original is good too. Pure corn, pure crunch, and weirdly addictive.

#4: Cheetos

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent who like it: 74%
My take: Are Cheetos technically a chip? I’m going to say yes. Whether you’re into puffs or crunchy, they leave your fingers orange and your soul satisfied. They’re technically tied for 5th place with Fritos — which honestly makes sense.

#3: Doritos

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 99%
Percent who like it: 76%
My take: It’s basically impossible not to eat the whole bag, right? Whether you’re team Cool Ranch or Nacho Cheese, you really can’t go wrong. And when it comes to nachos or taco-in-a-bag? Doritos are a must.

#2: Frito-Lay

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 98%
Percent of Americans who like it: 77%
My take: This feels a little broad — Frito-Lay owns most of the chips on this list, so I’m not even sure what bag people are picturing here. But clearly, the parent brand has a solid rep. Maybe it’s the association with variety packs?

#1: Pringles

Percent of Americans who have heard of it: 97%
Percent of Americans who like it: 78%
My take: Can’t lie — I’m impressed. The stackable chip in the pop-top can really does win. It’s fun, salty, and yeah, it shatters if you bite it wrong… but we love them anyway. Pringles aren’t my personal favorite, but I get the hype: every chip is consistent, they’re light and airy, and the flavor options are endless.
