Intro

Rotten luck.

Initial details

The FDA recently initiated a recall for these 19,000+ cases (which cover both 12 and 24-can cases) of Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar.
These cans in the cases are actually full-strength Dr. Pepper. So, basically the opposite of zero sugar.
This of course poses health risks to people who need to carefully limit their sugar intake (especially diabetics).

Impacted states

The firm hit with the recall is Pepsi Beverages Company in Jacksonville, Florida – and fortunately the impact is only regional.
More specifically, these three states are directly impacted by the recall:
– Florida
– South Carolina
– Georgia

How to know if your Dr. Pepper is impacted

Check for product code: XXXXRS05165
And you should see a “best buy” date of February 16th, 2026.
If your Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar doesn’t meet those criteria, it’s probably not impacted!
(You can always taste it just to be sure. I’ve yet to find a “sugar-free” version of a product that tastes exactly like the original.)

If you have some of the recalled Dr. Pepper…

You have a few options if you own a product impacted by the recall.
Because it’s not like a salmonella outbreak or anything like that, and you don’t have a medical condition like diabetes, you could just drink the Dr. Pepper anyway.
You should also be able to return the Dr. Pepper wherever you bought it for an exchange or refund.

Empty shelves

That’s a lot of Dr. Pepper just gone…and I’m confident we’ll see some empty store shelves in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida as retailers struggle to get new product stocked.
In the meantime, I’d recommend Diet Coke as a reasonable alternative…at least for now.
(I’m sure they’ll also get things sorted out pretty quickly.)
