TGI Fridays plans to open five new restaurants across New York State, a notable expansion move for a chain that has spent years shrinking its American footprint. A new agreement gives franchise operator Bliss Bites LLC three years to develop the five restaurants, although specific cities and opening dates have not yet been announced.
The plan arrives after a difficult stretch that included bankruptcy and additional restaurant closures. The company described the new arrangement as its first U.S. development agreement in more than a decade in a September 29 announcement.

Five new restaurants, plus an existing one
Bliss Bites will develop five new Fridays locations in New York over the next three years. The franchisee has also acquired the existing TGI Fridays at Central Islip on Long Island. That creates a portfolio of six restaurants for the operator once all five new locations are open, but only five of them count as new development.
That distinction matters. Central Islip is an operating restaurant changing hands, not a sixth newly constructed TGI Fridays. Local reporting also indicates that the company’s other remaining Long Island location, in Valley Stream, is continuing to operate.
The deal is being led by Bliss Bites owner and managing director Vinod Chand, who has decades of hospitality experience. The company has not identified five future addresses, and the three-year timetable means the expansion should not be mistaken for five imminent grand openings.
Why the New York agreement stands out
TGI Fridays first opened in New York City in 1965. The brand later grew into a familiar name for burgers, appetizers and casual dining, but it has also endured a sharp contraction. That history gives this agreement a different significance from a routine new franchise signing.
Instead of announcing another set of closures, the restaurant company is now putting a specific number on a proposed comeback in the state where it began. The five-store commitment forms part of a larger corporate growth strategy, though those broader targets are ambitions, not completed openings.
New York diners still need details that the announcement did not provide: which communities will receive the restaurants, what the buildings will look like and when doors will open. The company has not provided that location-by-location timetable.
For now, the confirmed development news is the five-restaurant franchise deal and the separate takeover of Central Islip. The actual openings will unfold over the coming three years if the project proceeds as planned.
