Texas has a commanding lead in Pizza Hut locations, yet Kansas takes first place when the numbers are measured per resident. Amid concern about potential Pizza Hut closures in Texas, a closer look at where the chain operates reveals some striking state-by-state differences.
Texas has roughly twice as many Pizza Huts as second-place California in a July 2026 location snapshot. But a different group of states dominates when restaurant counts are adjusted for population, with smaller Great Plains states particularly prominent.

The 10 states with the most Pizza Hut locations
- Texas โ 928 locations
- California โ 461 locations
- Florida โ 430 locations
- Georgia โ 283 locations
- Ohio โ 244 locations
- North Carolina โ 232 locations
- Pennsylvania โ 175 locations
- Missouri โ 174 locations
- Virginia โ 161 locations
- Indiana โ 159 locations
Texasโs 928 locations make it the unchallenged leader in raw numbers. California has 461 and Florida has 430, while Georgia lands fourth ahead of much more populous New York, which does not make the top ten. Missouri and Indiana also enter the top-ten mix, showing that Pizza Hutโs geographic footprint is not simply a map of the biggest states.
The 10 states with the most Pizza Hut locations per capita
These figures measure locations per 100,000 people, using the U.S. Census Bureauโs July 1, 2025 state population estimates. The unrounded rates determine the order; figures shown here are rounded to two decimal places.
- Kansas โ 152 locations; 5.10 per 100,000 residents
- Wyoming โ 27 locations; 4.59 per 100,000 residents
- Mississippi โ 99 locations; 3.35 per 100,000 residents
- South Dakota โ 31 locations; 3.32 per 100,000 residents
- Nebraska โ 65 locations; 3.22 per 100,000 residents
- Arkansas โ 97 locations; 3.11 per 100,000 residents
- Oklahoma โ 124 locations; 3.01 per 100,000 residents
- Louisiana โ 136 locations; 2.94 per 100,000 residents
- Texas โ 928 locations; 2.93 per 100,000 residents
- Alabama โ 148 locations; 2.85 per 100,000 residents
Kansas has 152 locations and about 5.10 per 100,000 residents, the highest concentration in the country under this calculation. Wyoming reaches second place with only 27 Pizza Huts. South Dakota, another state with fewer than 50 restaurants, ranks fourth. None of those states gets anywhere near the overall top ten.
Mississippi places third and Nebraska fifth, reinforcing how much the population adjustment reshuffles the rankings. Texas is the one exception among the biggest states: despite having the most Pizza Huts by far, it still manages ninth place per capita. Meanwhile, California drops out entirely. That contrast is a reminder that having hundreds of restaurants does not necessarily mean they are unusually common for local residents.
The StoresInfo count covers 6,139 Pizza Hut locations across states and Washington, D.C., as of July 2026. It is a historical snapshot, not a current opening-hours directory. The lists compare only the 50 states; Washington, D.C., is left out.
Location counts come from StoresInfoโs state-by-state Pizza Hut data, dated July 2026. Different restaurant-location directories sometimes report different totals because their collection dates and inclusion rules differ. Both lists above consistently use this single dataset.
