Alabama played a major role in turning Buc-ee’s into a national brand, and its stores have helped make Interstate 65 one of the most important Buc-ee’s highways. But as of July 2026, the company has not announced where—or when—it will build its fifth Alabama travel center.
That means Auburn remains Alabama’s newest Buc-ee’s. The store opened in April 2023 at 2500 Buc-ee’s Boulevard, beside Interstate 85 at Exit 50.
The 53,000-square-foot travel center brought Buc-ee’s to an especially strategic part of the state. It serves Auburn and Opelika residents, college football visitors and drivers traveling between Montgomery and Atlanta.
Alabama currently has four Buc-ee’s locations:
- Robertsdale, along Interstate 10 in Baldwin County
- Leeds, along Interstate 20 east of Birmingham
- Athens, along Interstate 65 in north Alabama
- Auburn, along Interstate 85 in Lee County
The Robertsdale store, which opened in 2019, was particularly significant because it was Buc-ee’s first travel center outside Texas. Its success helped launch an expansion that has since taken the company into states across the South, Midwest and Mountain West.

Where could Alabama’s next Buc-ee’s go?
Although rumors regularly circulate, Buc-ee’s has not publicly confirmed a fifth Alabama site. Recent company expansion lists extending through 2031 include projects in more than a dozen states, but no new Alabama city appears on those lists.
Geographically, Alabama’s four existing stores already cover many of the state’s most valuable highway corridors. Robertsdale captures Gulf Coast traffic, Leeds serves the Birmingham region, Athens covers north Alabama and Auburn reaches drivers on I-85.
That leaves the Montgomery area as one of the most obvious possibilities. Interstate 65 and Interstate 85 meet there, giving a potential store access to travelers heading toward Birmingham, Mobile, Atlanta and the Gulf Coast. Dothan and Tuscaloosa could also make sense, although neither is located directly along one of Buc-ee’s favorite major interstate corridors.
Buc-ee’s typically remains quiet about possible locations until property negotiations and local approvals are far enough along. A lack of an announcement therefore does not necessarily mean the company has finished expanding in Alabama.
For now, however, the latest update is straightforward: Alabama has four Buc-ee’s stores, no fifth location has been confirmed, and Auburn remains the newest one in the state.
