Florida currently has Buc-ee’s travel centers in Daytona Beach and St. Augustine, both positioned along Interstate 95. Now the company is preparing to reach a completely different part of the state as its network of interstate locations continues growing.
The strongest candidate to become Florida’s next Buc-ee’s is Tallahassee.
The proposed store would rise near Interstate 10 and Capital Circle Northwest in Leon County. Buc-ee’s purchased approximately 30.77 acres for nearly $10.8 million in late 2025, giving the project a much firmer foundation than an ordinary speculative proposal.
Plans describe an approximately 74,000-square-foot travel center with 120 fueling positions, roughly 800 parking spaces and designated electric-vehicle spaces. It would become the first Buc-ee’s in the Florida Panhandle.
The project is still working through permits
The company filed a detailed site plan in January 2026, but the review has taken longer than initially anticipated.
Leon County pushed a permit-review deadline into July while engineers continued resolving technical issues. The outstanding work has involved drainage, utilities, transportation and other details associated with a development of this size.
Earlier projections called for construction to begin during the first quarter of 2026 and for the store to open around mid-2027. Because construction had not begun on that original schedule, the opening target should now be treated as an estimate rather than a firm date.
County officials have said construction is likely to require approximately 16 to 18 months once Buc-ee’s receives the necessary approvals and begins work.
Florida has several other Buc-ee’s projects in development. A proposed St. Lucie County store at Interstate 95 and Indrio Road was once expected to open in 2027, but Buc-ee’s told CBS12 in July 2026 that it now anticipates a 2028 opening. The revised site plan remained under review, and construction had not started.
Additional stores are planned for Ocala and Port Charlotte later in the decade. The Ocala project is tied to a new Interstate 75 interchange at Northwest 49th Street, meaning its schedule depends partly on major public infrastructure work.
That leaves Tallahassee as the likely next Florida location—provided its permitting process moves forward soon. The property has been purchased, detailed plans have been submitted and the project remains active, but Buc-ee’s has not announced a groundbreaking or guaranteed opening date.
