If you’re Starbucks, you’re used to worrying about Dunkin’, McDonald’s various coffee attempts, and maybe Dutch Bros.
But out of nowhere, Chick-fil-A’s coming for the coffee crown!
Admittedly, it’s early…

According to Restaurant Dive, the Atlanta area can expect a wonderfully-named concept called Daybright this fall.
It’ll serve “specialty coffees, smoothies, and cold-press juice.”
But no, it won’t serve anything you find at a normal Chick-fil-A, whether drinks or food.
Chick-fil-A actually does this kind of thing pretty frequently. Its Red Wagon Ventures arm opens up various concepts like Little Blue Menu (think of a Chick-fil-A but blue-themed and with additional stuff like burgers and wings).
Before we get too carried away, know that it’s just one store. And it’s really, really hard to open a second blockbuster restaurant concept.
Remember Chipotle’s ShopHouse (Asian food)?
Still, it’s a low-risk bet for Chick-fil-A.
It could create new items for its own menu, for example.
If you’re Starbucks, you’re probably not super-worried yet. There’s always competition and it’s ahead by over 17,000 locations in the U.S. as Daybright opens its first location.
But you’re definitely monitoring the situation. If Chick-fil-A can bring some of its magic to beverages and maybe some-cross-promotion to help Daybright out, well, it could be a formidable competitor.
Or maybe it’s Dunkin’ who should monitor more closely, as the alternative to Starbucks. Some of it will depend on what the vibe is at Daybright and what they’re trying to be. Dutch Bros is big into exotic drinks beyond coffee…Daybright sounds like it’ll have great coffee alternatives with smoothies and fresh juices…maybe it’ll hit the healthier crowd.
We shall see. We’ll definitely aim to monitor the situation!
