Wisconsin really needed some good news.
After losing several factories in the past year…
And with more job losses incoming…
What Wisconsin distinctly did not need is news of more mass layoffs.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s happening as Pregis Innovative Packaging has announced plans to close its plastic packaging factory in Germantown, Wisconsin – at the cost of 48 good manufacturing jobs.
Plastic packaging is frequently used for food containers and shipping, and unfortunately demand for these and other applications is rapidly dropping as the economy slumps.
Ever since the launch of the trade war, American businesses have been on the back foot as they struggle to keep up with a bewildering slew of tariffs and retaliatory tariffs, snarled supply chains, and even outright boycotts of American goods.
This has especially impacted the food industry, where, for example, soybean exports have taken a nosedive…and packaged foods have been taking a hit, too.
This all piles on top of long term challenges including stubborn inflation, labor shortages, and long term shifts in American consumer preferences.
With all of those challenges, it’s no wonder that packaging companies have seen demand for their products decline – and have therefore had to trim production.
The logic of these decisions is cold comfort, however, to the hardworking Wisconsin factory workers who will be unemployed come 2026.
