Intro

In-N-Out, the beloved California burger chain, has announced firm plans to build additional stores and even expand to new states.
If you live in one of these lucky handful of places, you too will soon be able to get animal style fries any time you want!

Why people love In-N-Out so much

There are so many reasons.
The friendly staff.
The amazing prices.
The fantastic food.
For me? It’s probably the unique secret menu.

More than anything, I think it’s about rarity

If you live in California, In-N-Out is everywhere.
Not so much in the rest of the country.
In fact, if you come over to the East Coast, there are literally zero.
East Coast transplants from California have been begging In-N-Out to expand over here for years – and I’m starting to see signs that management may be planning to do just that.
After all, one of the new planned In-N-Outs is in Tennessee of all places!
But I’m getting ahead of myself – let’s take a quick spin through every new In-N-Out, starting with…
Shutterstock
#1: Anaheim, California

There are already two In-N-Outs in Anaheim – one on Brookhurst Street and the other on State College Boulevard.
The newest In-N-Out will be on Euclid Street.

#2: Carson, California

This will be the first In-N-Out in Carson, although there are already four in Long Beach.
But hey, saves a few minutes from the commute!

#3: Nampa, Idaho

This would be In-N-Out’s third restaurant in Idaho, after Boise and Meridian.
Look at those three places on a map, and you’ll see very clearly what In-N-Out’s strategy is – Downtown Boise, then Meridian (suburb), then Nampa (further-out suburb).

#4: Phoenix, Arizona

This planned In-N-Out will be the eighth in Phoenix.
(Which makes sense, Maricopa County – where Phoenix is located – holds the majority of Arizona’s population.)

#5: South Salt Lake, Utah

Like 11 of the 13 other locations in Utah, this planned In-N-Out will be in the Salt Lake City area.
South Lake, specifically, is just south of Salt Lake City, and this particular In-N-Out will be just off Route 89 and near I-15.

#6: Ridgefield, Washington

This will be the first In-N-Out in Washington State.
And because it’s on I-5 North from Portland to Seattle, it’ll naturally capture lots of traffic in that corridor.

#7: Nashville, Tennessee

This is big – In-N-Out is coming to Tennessee in 2026!
I would expect several to be built in Nashville, with expansions to Memphis and Roanoke, Virginia once they’ve finished sorting out any issues.
In-N-Out is planning to open 35 restaurants in Tennessee alone.

The big eastern expansion

And earlier this year, In-N-Out announced that they’re planning to open a whole new headquarters to manage its eastern empire, with operations centered in Franklin, Tennessee.
This highlights how serious In-N-Out is about its expansion to the East Coast!

#8: Albuquerque, New Mexico

This is In-N-Out’s first foray into New Mexico, and the company has plans to build several locations.
Get excited.

#9: Portland, Oregon

In-N-Out just met last month with the city of Portland to discuss the possibility of building its first location there.
The primary area under discussion is near the airport, right at the corner of Holman Street and Northeast Airport Way.
A great way to welcome travelers to Portland!

#10: Sylmar, California

Sylmar is in northern Los Angeles (it’s actually its northernmost neighborhood), and this will be its second In-N-Out – a 10 minute drive from the first.
But hey, let’s face it: When it comes to California, In-N-Out expansions seem to be less about making them easier to get to (California already has 100s) and usually more about cutting down the 30+ car lines that often pop up from everyone wanting a Double-Double at the same time!

Summary

This rapid expansion tells us a few things:
#1: In-N-Out is ready to go national. The Tennessee move (and especially their plans for a headquarters there) signals to me that they’re turning their attention to the East Coast.
#2: In-N-Out is still seeing plenty of “infill” opportunities in its current markets. Management is still opening new locations in places where they already have many – a sign that demand remains strong.
