Drivers in Ohio will soon have a brand-new roadside destination built on a scale rarely seen in the Midwest. The massive travel center — complete with more than a hundred gas pumps, a sprawling convenience store, and a devoted fan following — is preparing to open its doors for the first time in the state.
Texas travel center giant enters the Buckeye State
The popular Texas-based travel center chain Buc-ee’s is officially opening its first Ohio location, marking a major milestone as the brand continues expanding across the Midwest.
The massive travel center will open to the public at 6 a.m. on April 6, 2026, in Huber Heights, a suburb northeast of Dayton. The new store sits near the busy interchange of Interstate 70 and Ohio State Route 235, positioning it as a major stop for travelers moving through the region.
Local first responders will get an early preview during a special event on April 3 ahead of the official grand opening.
Not without its challenges
The project also sparked a dispute (and lawsuit) over who would supply water to the development. Officials in Huber Heights and the Montgomery County Environmental Services both sought control of water service for the new Buc-ee’s site, leading to months of negotiations. In the end, Huber Heights secured the right to provide water, clearing a key hurdle for the project.
A massive travel stop
Like other Buc-ee’s travel centers, the Huber Heights location will be far larger than a typical convenience store. The facility spans roughly 74,000 square feet and sits on a 53-acre site designed to handle large volumes of highway traffic.
The site will feature about 120 fuel pumps, hundreds of parking spaces, and electric vehicle charging stations, along with Buc-ee’s signature mega-sized convenience store.
Inside, visitors will find the chain’s famous food items and merchandise, including brisket sandwiches, beef jerky, homemade fudge, and the brand’s popular Beaver Nuggets snack mix. The stores are also known for their spotless restrooms and expansive retail sections filled with Buc-ee’s apparel and gifts.
Economic boost for the region
City leaders expect the project to generate a significant economic boost for the Dayton-area suburb. The new travel center is projected to create around 200 jobs once it opens.
Founded in Texas in 1982, Buc-ee’s has built a loyal following thanks to its oversized stores and highway-friendly amenities. With the Huber Heights opening, Ohio drivers will soon get their first taste of the beloved roadside destination.
