When you walk into a Dunkin’ Donuts you’ll find a fairly straightforward menu, whether you’re ordering your go-to coffee drink or picking up a warm breakfast. And many appreciate the popular coffee and donut chain for this reason; the less complicated the better.
While the list of donut flavors may seem unending, Dunkin’ keeps things pretty simple when it comes to the cup sizes available (as opposed to the seven cup sizes at Starbucks with variation based on hot or cold, which can make ordering a little confusing).
There are four main cup sizes available at Dunkin’. Here’s the run-down on how much the various sizes hold, and what kind of orders they’re meant for.

The four cup sizes available at Dunkin’
The four cup sizes available at Dunkin’ Donuts are small, medium, large, and extra-large. While small, medium, and large are size choices for essentially any drink on the menu, you can only order extra-large in a select few drink items. All sizes apply to the cups for both hot and iced drinks.
Small: 10oz
The small cup size at Dunkin’ holds 10 ounces of liquid – so while it’s the smallest size available, it’s still larger than your standard 8-ounce drink. You can order virtually any drink on the menu in a size small, from brewed coffee and cappuccinos to iced macchiatos, Refreshers, and frozen drinks. If you order a drink that’s made with espresso, a small size will come with one espresso shot for cappuccinos and lattes, and two shots for macchiatos and americanos.
Medium: 14oz
Dunkin’s medium size is a 14-ounce cup. For reference, this falls right in the middle of Starbucks’ tall and grande cup sizes. Again, just like a small, you can order pretty much any drink at Dunkin’, coffee, tea, or otherwise, in a size medium. For those coffee creations made with espresso, a medium size will come with one and a half shots of espresso for cappuccinos and lattes, and three shots for macchiatos and americanos.
Large: 20oz
You’ll see a big jump in size from the medium to large – at 20 ounces, this size is for those looking for quite the caffeine boost. At Dunkin’ the large is the largest size available for most drinks on the menu (with the exception of hot coffee and tea). If you order a cappuccino or latte in a size large, you’ll receive two espresso shots; if you order a macchiato in a size large, you’ll receive three shots; and if you order an americano in a size large you’ll receive four shots.
Extra-Large: 24oz
Dunkin’ does have one more cup size available for a select few menu items: the XL cup size comes in at 24 ounces. As stated above, this size is typically only an option when you order a hot brewed coffee (for example, the Original Blend or Dunkin’ Midnight brews) or any of Dunkin’s hot tea varieties. While you won’t see the XL listed as a size choice for any other drink when online ordering, it may be possible to ask for a cappuccino or latte in a size extra-large at your local Dunkin’ chain – in which case you’d receive two and a half espresso shots.
The only drink that doesn’t apply to the above sizes at Dunkin’ is an espresso, in which case the order will come in a single, double, or triple size (aka, one, two, or three espresso shots).
Here’s a helpful chart to break everything down, from size and ounce capacity to the standard amount of espresso included in the applicable coffee drinks.
| Cup Size | Capacity | Hot or Cold | Standard Shots for Espresso Drinks |
| Small | 10 oz | Hot + Cold | Cappuccinos + Lattes: 1 Macchiatos + Americanos: 2 |
| Medium | 14 oz | Hot + Cold | Cappuccinos + Lattes: 1.5 Macchiatos + Americanos: 3 |
| Large | 20 oz | Hot + Cold | Cappuccinos + Lattes: 2 Macchiatos: 3 Americanos: 4 |
| Extra-Large | 24 oz | Hot | N/A |
Dunkin’ currently offers a total of four cup sizes on their menu: small, medium, large, and extra-large. The small cup is 10 ounces, the medium cup is 14 ounces, the large cup is 20 ounces, and the extra-large cup is 24 ounces (for hot drinks only).
The biggest size at Dunkin’ is an extra-large, which holds 24 ounces of liquid. However, this size is only available for hot brewed coffee and hot tea orders. For the majority of drinks, hot or iced, on the Dunkin’ menu, the largest size available will be a size large, which is 20 ounces.
Starbucks has six cup sizes while Dunkin’ has four. From smallest to largest: a Starbucks demi size is 3 ounces; a Starbucks short size is 8 ounces; a Dunkin’ small size is 10 ounces; a Starbucks tall size is 12 ounces; a Dunkin’ medium size is 14 ounces; a Starbucks grande size is 16 ounces; both a Dunkin’ large size and a Starbucks venti size (hot drinks only) are 20 ounces; and both a Dunkin’ extra-large size (hot drinks only) and a Starbucks venti size (iced drinks only) are 24 ounces. And Starbucks also has a 30-ounce Trenta option for cold drinks.
