A Jersey Shore Italian favorite known for oversized martinis and lively dinners has joined the growing list of beloved New Jersey restaurants that have closed in 2026. Fratello’s Restaurant in Sea Girt served its final customers on Wednesday, October 14, ending a 20-year run at 810 The Plaza.
The restaurant and property were sold, owner Chris DeCresce announced, bringing a close to a familiar destination for Italian food, seafood, steaks and Friday-night entertainment. Its departure leaves longtime customers with memories of dinners, celebrations and the big drinks that became a signature of the place.

Twenty years at the Jersey Shore
Fratello’s had been a fixture in downtown Sea Girt since approximately 2006. Its wood-paneled dining room and central bar created the atmosphere of a neighborhood Italian restaurant where customers could settle in for a full dinner or stop by for a drink.
The menu combined traditional Italian cooking with seafood and steakhouse favorites. Rigatoni Bolognese was a house recommendation, and dinners came with bread and a house salad. Guests also praised dishes such as Chicken Valentino, Shrimp Andrea, veal Marsala and seafood preparations.
The restaurant balanced special occasions with the everyday. It offered early-bird dinners, takeout and a private-party setup for groups ranging from 10 to 100 people. Families could gather around a table, couples could make an evening of it, and regulars could return for favorite dishes without waiting for a celebration.
On its website, customer reviews repeatedly praised the welcoming staff, attentive service and comfortable setting. One guest described how the restaurant handled a large party, while another singled out the Chicken Valentino and the friendly atmosphere. The affection was not only about the food; it was also about feeling well looked after.
Live music and famously large martinis
Fratello’s also gave diners a reason to linger after dinner. The restaurant hosted live music on Friday nights for about 12 years, turning its lounge into a regular gathering spot. Its oversized martinis were part of the experience, whether enjoyed at the bar or alongside a plate of pasta.
Three Steps Back, one of its longest-running musical acts, was scheduled to play its last Friday show on October 9. The restaurant planned more live performances throughout its farewell week, giving the community an opportunity to mark the end of a longtime local institution.
Why Fratello’s closed
The closing followed the sale of both the business and the property. DeCresce did not publicly offer a more detailed explanation for the sale, and the farewell was framed as the end of a chapter rather than a move to another Fratello’s location.
In the restaurant’s own farewell message, the team thanked Sea Girt for two decades of dinners, birthdays and Friday nights. The message also said the new owners plan to open a different, independently operated restaurant at the address in spring 2027.
That means the building may welcome diners again, but the Fratello’s that served Sea Girt for 20 years has finished its run. For people who associated the spot with a particular dish, an evening of live music or a familiar face at the bar, a new sign will not replace everything that made the old restaurant special.
