Beloved restaurant chain has closed another location as it disappears from the U.S.

For years, Bahama Breeze gave customers a taste of the tropics with Caribbean-inspired food, tropical drinks, and an island-themed atmosphere. Now, another location has served its final customers as the longtime restaurant chain continues its nationwide wind-down.

Bahama Breeze closed its last Georgia restaurant

The Bahama Breeze in Kennesaw, Georgia, closed after serving its final customers on August 29, marking the end of the restaurant chain’s presence in the state. The location on Barrett Parkway was the last remaining Bahama Breeze in Georgia.

The restaurant did not simply disappear, however. Darden Restaurants, which owns Bahama Breeze as well as Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Yard House, and several other chains, planned to convert the Kennesaw restaurant into a Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. The new restaurant was expected to open September 23 following several weeks of renovations.

The chain is being phased out

The Kennesaw closure was part of Darden’s larger plan to wind down Bahama Breeze. Earlier this year, the company announced that all 28 remaining restaurants would either be permanently closed or converted into other Darden concepts.

Fourteen locations were designated for permanent closure, while the other 14, including Kennesaw, were selected for conversion. Darden said Bahama Breeze was no longer a strategic priority for the company.

Current status

As of late August, 11 Bahama Breeze restaurants remained in operation. Those locations were scheduled to close gradually, with some being converted into Chuy’s, Yard House, Olive Garden, or other Darden brands. The remaining restaurants were expected to disappear by spring 2027.

Bahama Breeze opened its first restaurant in Orlando in 1996 and spent roughly three decades building a following around its tropical theme and Caribbean-inspired menu. For longtime customers, the closures represent the end of a familiar restaurant brand that had become a destination for vacations, date nights, and special occasions.
