And on top of that, hazelnut syrup can turn your ice creams, toppings, pancakes, cocktails, and much more into a new creation!
And don’t worry, you don’t need to spend hours researching which hazelnut syrups are the best and which ones you should buy – we’ve done all that for you and created this list of our favorite hazelnut syrups!

Let’s check them out!
What is hazelnut syrup?
Hazelnut syrup is a delicious flavoring agent that boasts a rich and nutty flavor profile. It’s generally made by putting water, sugar, and chopped hazelnuts (or hazelnut extract) into a saucepan and boiling it all together, and then straining it to separate the syrup from the chopped hazelnuts!
It’s a great way to add the rich and nutty goodness that hazelnuts provide to things like your morning coffee, your fancy lattes, your post-workout smoothies, and your delicious cocktails. It tends to be sweet due to the added sugar, which is a really nice flavor addition!
So, instead of driving over to your nearest coffee shop or buying hazelnut-infused coffee grounds, you can add a pump of this delicious goodness to your cup of Joe and you’re good to go!
How to use hazelnut syrup for flavoring
Hazelnut syrup is a wonderful way to add a nutty twist to your dishes, and is especially great for beverages.
Use it, like we talked about, in your coffees and lattes for a pop of sweet nuttiness – and it works for hot AND cold drinks! This is also perfect for your Christmas morning hot chocolate! Cocktails are another place for hazelnut syrup to shine – try adding it into your chocolate and espresso martinis, or whip up a hazelnut old fashioned for something a little different. I’ve even heard of people using it to add a new dimension to vodka martinis!
You can even use hazelnut syrup in your frosting, over your ice cream, or in place of maple syrup for things like pancakes, waffles, french toast, crepes – the list goes on and on!
Basically, hazelnut syrup is there to add a sweet and nutty taste to basically anything you want.
Hazelnut syrup isn’t as strong as something like hazelnut extract, so I recommend using 2 teaspoons of hazelnut syrup for every 1 teaspoon of hazelnut extract that a recipe calls for – basically use twice as much syrup as you’d use extract! However, I’d recommend that you use hazelnut extract for recipes that call for it, as the highly concentrated flavor usually does a bit better in terms of balancing tastes in bakes.
You’ll also find that hazelnut syrup is sweeter than its extract counterpart, so keep that in mind when you’re switching these around!
Top recipes for hazelnut syrup
Here are some ways that you can take advantage of hazelnut syrup’s delicious flavor:
- Hazelnut milk: Now this is a delicious recipe that creates a dairy-free alternative to regular milk! It’s perfect for refreshing yourself and making hazelnut lattes with, but you can add a pump of hazelnut syrup to bring out even more nutty sweetness! Or, if you don’t care about the dairy-free part, you can take regular milk and mix in about 1-2 pumps of hazelnut syrup to get your desired taste!
- Chocolate coconut milk ice cream: Ice cream is perfect for any time of the year, and this recipe will have you wanting it all the time! Now, you can replace the maple syrup this calls for with hazelnut syrup if you want to add a nutty vibe to it, or you can simply add hazelnut syrup over top of this ice cream!
- Coconut milk coffee latte: Coconut and nutty flavors go super well together! Try adding a pump of your hazelnut syrup into the mix here to enjoy a twist on an already delicious recipe! Or, switch out the maple syrup with the hazelnut syrup for a nuttier sweetener!
How to choose the best hazelnut syrup
We’ve done all the research to find the best hazelnut syrups that you can ask for, and we’ve created this list of criteria that helped us make our rankings:
- Ingredients: We don’t like artificial ingredients, but unfortunately a lot of hazelnut syrups contain some. We still put more value on natural ingredients, and found a couple really good options that are completely natural! The ingredients are also all listed under each product below.
- Consumer feedback: The opinions of fellow bakers and hazelnut syrup users really helped us see what people liked and didn’t like about each product – customer reviews give us a unique perspective!
- Track record: We take a close look at each brand to make sure that they always prioritize making high-quality and effective products, and aren’t involved in anything sketchy or use less-than-acceptable ingredients.
- Price: Don’t worry about price – there’s hazelnut syrups ranging from budget-friendly to pricey, so you can choose whether to save a couple bucks or splurge!
Now, let’s jump into the rankings!
#1 Best Overall: Torani
The best overall hazelnut syrup goes to Torani!
Torani is wildly popular, and for good reason. They have some amazing products, and have set themselves apart from the pack here with their delicious hazelnut syrup! They also have two of the highest-rated hazelnut syrups on this list (see number 3), with this one earning a 4.7 out of 5 stars with nearly 2400 reviews – those are some serious numbers!
They established themselves in 1925, so you know that they have experience – plus, a company that’s around for that long is doing something right! Torani is also a B Corp, a certification they received back in 2019. Basically, this means they “meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency,” which is a good thing to note about a brand!
Check out their hazelnut syrup and you’ll see why these guys are so highly rated!
Ingredients: Pure Cane Sugar Water Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate (To Preserve Freshness). Potassium Sorbate (To Preserve Freshness).
#2 Best Value: DaVinci Gourmet
This hazelnut syrup is almost too good…
DaVinci Gourmet has created a wonderful hazelnut syrup that plays with the top dogs like Torani and Monin, and it boasts the best value out of this entire list! It comes in a pack of four, with each bottle providing you with a rich and sweet hazelnut flavor that’s meant for your coffee – DaVinci Gourmet is known for making their syrups specifically with hot beverages in mind, just like with their coconut syrup!
You can enjoy it for just $0.30 per fluid ounce, which is absolutely amazing for this quality! Only number 3 on this list is cheaper (but I’ll explain why), and DaVinci Gourmet hazelnut syrup is kosher-certified and boasts a 4.6 out of 5 stars, and has nearly 4400 reviews – that’s over double more reviews than any other on this list!
Try out this great hazelnut syrup for a great price!
Ingredients: Water, cane sugar, citric acid, sodium benzoate (preservative), potassium sorbate (preservative), natural and artificial flavor. Contains tree nuts (Hazelnuts).
#3 Best Sugar-Free: Torani
Yes, Torani has managed to snag two places on this list – and in the top 3!
This one ranks so high because it’s completely sugar-free – which is very unique considering that hazelnut syrups are typically made with sugar as one of their main ingredients. Now, you may think that this doesn’t taste nearly as good as any of these other ones because of that, but Torani really surprised us here with an amazingly delicious flavor!
It’s also the most affordable option on this list, coming in at $0.22 per fluid ounce – DaVinci Gourmet still gets the “best value” hazelnut syrup because they’ve created a “real” hazelnut syrup (they used sugar in the traditional way) with an unmatched price, hence the amazing value!
Regardless, if you want a sugar-free hazelnut syrup, look no further than this one!
Ingredients: PURIFIED WATER, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CITRIC ACID, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM, SODIUM BENZOATE (TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS), POTASSIUM SORBATE (TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS), XANTHAN GUM, SUCRALOSE (SPLENDA BRAND), CARAMEL COLOR.
#4 Best Organic: Joe’s Syrup
When it comes to organic hazelnut syrups, nothing tops Joe’s Syrup.
They pick their hazelnuts from Oregon’s Willamette Valley, which is world famous. They then pair their organic hazelnuts with organic cane sugar, filtered water, and citric acid, creating an organic hazelnut syrup that actually tastes delicious – which isn’t always the case for organic products!
Plus, it’s made in the USA, is vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, and has no preservatives added! It also comes in at an amazing price for an organic product (which are usually massively more expensive than other options), costing you just $0.85 per fluid ounce!
There’s a lot to love in Joe’s Syrup hazelnut syrup!
Ingredients: Organic cane sugar, filtered water, hazelnut flavor, citric acid.
#5 Best Keto: Monin
You were probably expecting to see this brand in the list!
Monin rounds out our top 5 with a delicious sugar-free and keto-friendly hazelnut syrup. It has a great blend of rich, sweet, and nutty flavors that make for a great companion to your coffee, lattes, ice cream, and cocktails, lending its delicious flavors to dishes worldwide!
You can also enjoy it on your keto diet without any worries, and the review section is bombarded with positive stories about how delicious this stuff is!
Monin really knocked it out of the park with this one!
Ingredients: Water, erythritol, natural and artificial flavors, cellulose gum, citric acid, sucralose, sea salt, potassium sorbate (preservative).
#6 Best Non-GMO: Pink House Alchemy
The best non-GMO hazelnut syrup goes to Pink House Alchemy!
Not only do these guys have a cool name, but their hazelnut syrup is a great product that shows the wonderful attention to detail that a small business often provides – you can tell they really care about providing you with the best possible flavor!
It also has a lot less ingredients than many of these other options, which is something we really enjoy – getting the best possible flavor without using a ton of ingredients is an art!
It’s a little pricier, coming in at $1.25 per fluid ounce, but supporting a smaller brand while enjoying a delicious hazelnut syrup sounds like a win-win to us!
Ingredients: Pure Cane Sugar, Filtered Water, Hazelnut Extract, Lactic Acid.
#7 Most Consistent: Monin
At our number 7 spot we have, once again, Monin!
They get the “most consistent” title because if you’ve ever surrounded yourself with flavoring syrups, you’ve likely heard of how many people love Monin. That’s not to say they always make the top product (that’s Torani in this case), but they consistently make top-notch syrups that get the job done – and then some!
This version of their hazelnut syrup is halal, and also comes in at the great price of $0.58 per fluid ounce. Regardless of if you need a halal product or not, you can feel comfortable that Monin consistently makes great syrups, and their hazelnut syrups here are living proof of that!
Ingredients: Pure cane sugar, water, natural flavors, citric acid, sea salt.
#8 Honorable Mention: Amoretti
Amoretti is a popular name in the flavoring community, and we want to give them an honorable mention for their solid hazelnut syrup.
Made in Southern California, Amoretti hazelnut syrup is a good choice if you’re wanting the delicious hazelnut flavor with some extra sweetness in your dishes. It comes with a free pump, which is a perfect addition to your coffee bar – add a pump or two of this tasty hazelnut syrup into your coffee every morning and you’ll never go back to regular coffee!
Ingredients: Sucrose, dextrose, fructose, water, natural flavor.
#9 Honorable Mention: Fontana
Fontana hazelnut syrup is another solid choice that’ll get the job done!
It also comes with a pump, so you can easily add it to your favorite beverages – try it out with some ice coffee! You’ll find that it’s nothing special compared to some of these other ones, and the price isn’t the biggest draw either – that being said, it’s a good choice that’ll give you the hazelnut flavor!
Ingredients: Sugar, water, natural flavor, citric acid (E330), preservative: Potassium sorbate (E202).
Others we reviewed
There are a ton of hazelnut syrups out there – I think Starbucks really pushed that hazelnut flavor out into the world for beverages because now everyone is making it!
That being said, not every hazelnut syrup makes the cut for our list…
One of those brands is Syruvia. Now, this isn’t a bad hazelnut syrup, but they use some artificial coloring – I know I said that a lot of hazelnut syrups use artificial ingredients, but we still look for the least amount, and Syruvia has too much.
The same goes for Weldon Flavorings, who unfortunately felt the need to add more artificial ingredients than was absolutely necessary (added coloring). Plus, they’re way more expensive than any other hazelnut syrup here, coming in at $3.25 per fluid ounce, which is simply too pricey!
And the same fate befalls 1883, which is actually a well-priced, kosher, and halal hazelnut syrup – but they had to go and add too many artificial ingredients as well.
Unfortunately, we can’t recommend these 3, but we know that you’ll love the many great options in our rankings!
