The Texas-based travel center chain Buc-ee’s Holdings, Inc. is planning its first location in Nebraska, a major milestone in the company’s nationwide expansion. The proposed facility will be built in the Good Life District near Interstate 80 and Highway 31, officials announced this week.
A major roadside destination comes to Nebraska
Buc-ee’s, known for its large retail spaces, dozens of fuel pumps, extensive food offerings, and cult-favorite snacks, will mark its Nebraska debut with a travel center that city leaders hope will draw both long-distance travelers and local residents.
The company, which started in Texas in 1982 and has grown to dozens of locations across the U.S., has built a reputation for oversized convenience stores often compared to “destination stops” along major highways.
The new location is planned on an annexed 43-acre site southeast of the Interstate 80/Highway 31 interchange. Early planning suggests the facility could include a multi-thousand-square-foot store and around 100 fueling pumps — far exceeding the size and amenities of typical gas stations in the region.
Local leaders celebrate economic opportunity
Mayor Mike Evans and Gretna officials described the announcement as a “major economic development milestone” for the growing Good Life District. City leaders emphasize that the project is expected to generate jobs, increase state tax revenues, and boost tourism in the Omaha metro area.
What’s next and when it might open
While final plans are expected to be completed in March 2026, the timeline for groundbreaking and opening has not yet been confirmed. Officials say additional city council approvals are still pending before construction can begin.
A new era for Nebraska road trips
If completed, the Gretna Buc-ee’s will be the first of its kind in Nebraska, bringing the travel center’s signature blend of fuel, food, and retail to one of the state’s busiest interstate corridors. It’s an exciting time for Buc-ee’s fans and Nebraskans alike!
