Buc-ee’s is AMAZING! Full stop.
No place on earth has the combination of wonders Buc-ee’s does.
That said, there are specific upgrades out there. Here are 5…

An upgrade on barbecue

If you’re at a Buc-ee’s, you have to get the barbecue, BUT especially if you’re in Texas, there are so many amazing barbecue joints…
Here are seven that are upgrades to our beloved Buc-ee’s.
Salt Lick BBQ (Driftwood, Round Rock, and 2 airports)
Luling City Market (Houston)
Stiles Switch BBQ (Austin + 2 more locations)
Terry Black’s (Austin + 4 more locations)
Cooper’s Old-Time Pit Bar-B-Que (Llano + 4 more)
Franklin Barbecue (Austin)
Kreuz Market (Lockhart)
Granted, they won’t be as quick or easy at a Buc-ee’s stop, but come on, get both!

An upgrade for a road trip stop

If you’ve been anywhere near Mount Rushmore or the Badlands, you know exactly what we’re talking about.
Like South of the Border in South Carolina, there are dozens and dozens of billboards touting this pit stop from literally hundreds of miles out!
Personally, I found Wall Drug a bit disappointing (especially compared to a Buc-ee’s), but this group of Western-themed stores and restaurants is a must-stop.
There aren’t that many Buc-ee’s (yet!), but Wall Drug is one of a kind.

An upgrade for a car wash

Many of us know that Buc-ee’s holds the world record for the longest car wash (the one in Katy, TX), but there are still only about a dozen of them.
That’s great if you have a Buc-ee’s near your home.
But if you don’t, and you don’t want to fight the road-tripping tourists, Mister Car Wash is the largest national chain with over 400 locations. And for people who love to keep their cars spic and span, they have the Unlimited Wash Club.

An upgrade for gas stops

OK, we’re not arguing that Sheetz is a bigger or more fun stop that Buc-ee’s.
But it’s less of a time suck (are you really getting in and out of a Buc-ee’s in under an hour?).
Plus, while there are only a few dozen Buc-ee’s, there are over 700 Sheetz locations.
Think of Sheetz as a Buc-ee’s Lite … plentiful gas pumps, decent-sized restrooms, and good food choices.

An upgrade for deer corn

It does feel like you can get anything at a Buc-ee’s, even deer corn at many of the locations.
But if you’re going for stuff like deer corn, you’ve gotta check out a Tractor Supply store.
It has that and so much more for the rural lifestyle!
We couldn’t help but add one more…

Bonus: An upgrade for fans?

Fans of Buc-ee’s really love Buc-ee’s.
We tried to think of a place that has similar fandom. Disney comes to mind as an upgrade, but that’s probably unfair. I mean it’s our childhoods!
In-N-Out may be the place. With so much love from celebrities and regular burger lovers, it may just have a bigger, more enthusiastic fan base than Buc-ee’s.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments if Buc-ee’s or In-N-Out is the ultimate!
