The Mediterranean diet, which is drawn from the main food groups typically consumed by those in Mediterranean countries, is similar to the keto diet or paleo diet in that certain categories such as processed foods and added sugars are to be avoided.
That makes enjoying a meal at your favorite fast food joint quite hard to do while you follow the diet, especially if the restaurant doesn’t offer some of the more diet-friendly menu options like grilled chicken or salads.
If you’re hoping to enjoy some food at Burger King while on the Mediterranean diet, your options are pretty limited – but here’s everything on the menu that you can order (with modifications) to make for a more diet-friendly meal on the go.

Mediterranean diet-friendly food and drinks available on the Burger King menu
There are few major food groups or ingredients to stay away from at Burger King (and most other fast food chains, whether it’s McDonald’s or Chick-Fil-A) if you want to stick to a Mediterranean diet. These include added sugar, refined grains, and red meat.
That means that things like sauces, condiments, sweets, and most beverages are not an option on the Mediterranean diet due to their added sugar, as well as buns, pastries, and other breads due to the refined wheat flour used to make them.
While lean meats like chicken and fish are fair game, unfortunately Burger King does not currently offer any grilled meat options; all of their chicken and fish items are breaded and fried, and thus don’t make for diet-friendly choices. The rest of the meat on the menu is either ground beef or processed breakfast meat, both of which should be avoided. Without menu items like salads available, that doesn’t leave many meal options at Burger King.
That said, Burger King does offer an Impossible Whopper at select locations, which is made with a plant-based Impossible meatless patty. If you live near a location that serves this item, this could be a good option for a Mediterranean diet-friendly meal once you make the necessary modifications.
Dairy is a bit of a confusing category on the Mediterranean diet – some avoid it entirely while others choose to include certain dairy products like some cheeses, yogurt, or full-fat milk. Ultimately, it’s your decision whether you choose to eat cheese and thus how you modify your meal to accommodate that.
Here are the handful of options you have on the Burger King menu if you’d like to order a meal or snack that falls in line with the Mediterranean diet.

Unfortunately there aren’t many menu options at Burger King that fall in line with a Mediterranean diet. The best option is most likely the Impossible Whopper, ordered without the bun and condiments, which will give you a more hearty plant-based meal.
Burger King’s Impossible Whopper is made with a plant-based Impossible Patty. The main ingredients include water, soy protein concentrate, sunflower oil, coconut oil, and natural flavors. Aside from the patty, the burger itself is made with mayonnaise, ketchup, lettuce, white onion, pickles, and a sesame bun.
Burger King did once offer entree and side salads on their menu; however, all salad items have been discontinued and are no longer available across most Burger King locations nationwide.
