These coconut oil fat bombs help to speed up your metabolism, support your thyroid and boost your energy!
I’ve been making this coconut oil candy (I call them “coconut oil fat bombs”) for years. They’re nice to have on hand when I have sugar cravings now and again. I mix these into my coffee (you know I love my coconut oil coffee). When I blend these up in my coffee It tastes like a peppermint mocha. Yum!!
What’s nice about them is since they’re made of coconut oil it’s really hard to indulge. Just one of these will satisfy my sugar craving. If I want a little bit of flavor, I’ll add a teaspoon of peppermint extract. Peppermint affects the brain’s satiety center, which triggers a sensation of fullness after meals.
If you struggle to lose fat despite exercising and eating right, or if you have low energy levels, difficulty sleeping, sensitivity to cold/heat, digestive issues, or brain fog, it’s possible that you might have a Thyroid disorder. If you’re like me and have a sluggish thyroid, coconut oil is excellent to add to your diet because it helps your thyroid!
“When added to a balanced diet, coconut oil slightly lowers the cholesterol level, which is exactly what is expected when a dietary change raisesthyroid function. This same increase in thyroid function and metabolic rate explains why people and animals that regularly eat coconut oil are lean, and remarkably free of heart disease and cancer.” – Ray Peat
Me personally, I don’t worry about eating something that’s high in fat, because coconut oil is a healthy fat. When you eat MCTs (like in coconut oil) this results in accelerated metabolic conversion! That is, instead of being stored as fat, the calories contained in MCTs are very efficiently converted into fuel for immediate use by the body.
If you’re trying to cut back on the sugar but want a healthy treat, try these coconut oil fat bombs!

Just wondering.. Why vanilla bean powder instead of extract or paste?
Thank you
Nicole
This is soooo delicious. I used my food processer with the non-melted coconut oil. I think it best to liquify the oil first. I also used carob instead of chocolate and could have used less (1/4 cup or less). I had a hard time getting it into my ice cube trays/silicon molds as it was so thick/sticky so I just laid it all out on my glass pie pan making my bombs much thinner. I think I need to find those silicon molds next time and do the liquified version you did. I also sprinkled salt over the tops and added some diced pistachachios over 1 part of it, some diced walnuts over another section, some hemp seed over another and left the other section plain. All were totally great. Tks so much for creating this recipe.

What is the nutrition on this ?
Judiann Hasier Lesko
Yes, what are the nutrients counts please (and thank you)?
Crystal
This recipe sounds really good! I made “fat bombs” that included peanut butter, but I wanted a recipe without, and this is it! I appreciate that you included those sources at the end.
Kamiko
Hello!
Can these be eaten or are they just for coffee??
Tiffany - The Coconut Mama
Yes, you can eat them 🙂
LuAnn Foy
Thank you for sharing your recipe! I just made a batch. They are awesome!❤
Sara
Nutrition info would make this recipe much more beneficial to those counting their macros. I see a couple people have already asked. Safe to assume you don’t actually know?
Nancy
Hi Sara That seems kinda rude, are you taking it for granted that others will supply you with everything you want? Is there a reason you can’t look up the nutrition info for yourself? Seems like a pretty simple thing to do, if that’s your special interest… Just google it, something like “Nutrition info coconut oil.” Best of luck to you with counting your macros. 🙂
Denise
Omg. This is sooo good. I sprinkled sea salt and Xylitol on top, and used 1/2 tsp vanilla extract and 1/2 tsp peppermint extract. I used 5 liquid stevia drops and I added hemp seed hearts, which are almost flavorless, to give some texture. I blended the oil, unmelted, with everything else in my food processor. And oh my…. Delicious! My new favorite Keto treat.
Anne
Your recipe says Cocoa Powder but the link goes to Cocao (2 last letters switched) Powder. I believe it’s the latter you recommend as it’s healthier. Correct? Readers might want to note the difference. Thanks.
Gina-Marie Hammer
Have you tried these unsweetened? I’m looking for fat bombs that have a chocolately flavor but which are unsweetened, as I’m allergic to all of the artificial sweeteners as well as Stevia.
The Coconut Mama
Hi Gina! Yes, they taste fine without the sweetener. If you add peppermint it makes them a little more sweeter as well.
Love
This recipe is the best. It’s the first one I tried and it’s easy. I was looking for a recipe that didn’t involve heating the oil-and this is the one. I put vanilla in mine and would like to try other extract flavors. I also added pastachios, hulled hemp and pumpkin seeds. It came out delicious!

What are the nutrition facts?
Lori
Melt the coconut oil or use it hard?
PATTY
from PubMed:
Given the differences in study designs, populations, and localities, the results of coconut oil trials are remarkably uniform showing that it increases LDL-cholesterol levels, an established cause of cardiovascular disease.
Safiya Brown
The proof is in my glowing skin, hair and nails, Increased energy and clarity of mind after consuming coconut oil, not in studies funded by unknown sources. THE PROOF IS IN THE RESULTS ALWAYS!
GB
Actually if you look at a lot of the studies, they are using hydrogenated coconut oil. NOT the same thing. Kind of makes you think they are doing it to mislead the public…
Janet
I had a year that I really went all in with coconut oil. It did increase my LDL, but my system also adjusted my HDL so that my ratios were the same with the year before. We are amazingly made! I don’t eat coconut oil as insanely as I was that first year and my LDL has gone back to normal range again. I can’t wait to make these fat bombs again, and I just sweeten with a bit of maple syrup. Enjoy!
LW
Could collagen be added? If so, how much and how?
Liz
Looks like I am going to use up all of my ice so I can put these in the trays! These look fantastic!
Sharon
Just love your Fat bomb receipe! thank you!! I printed it out once b/4 but lost the recipe and had to come back and print it out again! Thank you so much!!

Jon Ann M Cromyak

The Coconut Mama
You can use vanilla extract or leave it out.
Martha Ellen
Do these need to stay frozen, refrigerated, or are they shelf stable once solidified? Not quite sure from the directions.
The Coconut Mama
It’s best to keep the in the refrigerator or freezer.
Elizabeth
Hi! I’m wondering your take on cadmium levels shown to be found in toxic amounts in cocoa powder?? I’m wondering if you think it’s safe in moderation? I’m so torn about whether to give to my daughter.
Thank you! I look forward to your thoughts!
Denise Hank
How many batches of these do you get out of the 1oz bag of vanilla bean powder?
The Coconut Mama
A lot! I’ve had the same bag for a few years and I use vanilla bean powder almost every day.

How can I substitute erythritol for stevi
Jan
I had a Thyroidectomy in April this past year and take Levathyroxin for it. Would these fat bombs help me too?
Dottie
Thanks
Denise
I’d love to try this. Can I use a couple drops of vanilla extract instead of vanilla bean powder?
The Coconut Mama
Yes, that’ll work just fine. 🙂
Charlene
Hello–just wondering how well does the cocoa dissolve when you mix it in your coffee? So far my coco doesn’t dissolve well.
The Coconut Mama
Try blending it!
Chloe
How many calories each and how many should it make
Renée
How many servings does this make and and how many calo6per bomb this size
The Coconut Mama
Between 20-25 (if you use the same molds I use). If you use honey there will be more calories. I used stevia. Each fat bomb is approximately 95 calories. Hope this helps!
Debe Loeber
Do you know the net carbs using stevia? Can I truvia?
Robyn
I’ve just recently gotten into fat bombs as a way to get a load of healthy fat into me and my family, other than just straight coconut oil. .. this turned out delicious, I used centrifuged coconut oil, so no taste, but if I had it on hand, I’d use Virgin coconut oil because I love coconut flavor. Used 1/2 cup cocoa powder, cacao powder would be excellent there too. About 1tsp vanilla extract, and around 3 tbsp honey. I didn’t want to make noise with a blender so I just whisked it all together over a double boiler to melt the coconut oil, and it worked decently, although I could tell the honey wanted to settle out. I mixed occasionally while pouring into molds, but I’m sure the last ones I poured will be sweeter than the first ones, but boy are they yummy! I can see where there is a lot of flexibility in this recipe for creativity to strike. Thanks for the inspiration!
Danielle
What is the nutrient info for these fat bombs?
Dina
Can you tell how many calories are the coconut bombs
The Coconut Mama
Approximately 95 calories per fat bomb.
Karen
Oooh, going to try these! Am wondering how many this will make in a typical ice cube mold. (I am not able to see comments so not sure if this was asked already) Thanks!! 🙂
Nicole
Is the coconut oil supposed to be solid or melted? What is the volume approx of each “cube” in the ice cube tray?
Michelle
I’ve had thyroid disease for almost 15 years and I really trying to find more recipes that will help. I just whipped these up today and they are super great! Thank you so much!
Liz Fogg
Do you recommend leaving these in the freezer once made? I’m trying to find something to carry with me during the day and during long races when I need a pick-me-up before one is provided by the race. Thanks!!
Janet
If the temperature is above 76 F then the coconut oil will become liquified. Just below that and they’ll soften, so not the best for keeping in a bag unless you’re outdoors in winter weather, or don’t mind squeezing their goodness from the bag in liquid form.
Michele
How many does one eat in a day?
Heather
Have you made these with other variations such as lemon or lime, without the cocoa? I’d like to use YL lemon or lime essential oils in them.
Janet
I’ve made something very similar with key lime juice and honey.
Vano
Would cacao powder work intead of cocoa?
Lisa
Hi Tiffany, This sounds delicious – but I’m finding the vanilla bean powder to be pretty expensive. Are there any alternatives that you’d recommend?
marya
dear Tiffiany: I’am one of your subscibers, I want to know can you make the
coconut fat bombs in a nutri bullet?
Toni
Do you use the solid coconut oil that tastes like coconut or the milder liquid one?
Amy
Instead of using Liquid Stevia how much Raw Honey would you suggest I use?
The Coconut Mama
I would start with a few tablespoons of honey and add more to taste. Depends on how sweet you like them.
Heather J Grammon
These coconut oil treats look so delish, I think my kids will love these so I will have to try them out
Jennifer
Yum- these look great! Can you tell me the nutrition facts?
Karen
Can you use honey to sweeten?
The Coconut Mama
Yes! Honey is a great natural alternative to stevia.
Robbi
How much honey would you suggest?
sherry
I keep reading that peppermint essential oil is not safe to ingest. Or is this too small a quantity to be concerned with? Do you have any idea what the equivalent of peppermint extract would be?
The Coconut Mama
It depends on the source. I use Young Living and their peppermint essential oil is safe to ingest. You can use a 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract instead if you prefer.
Laura
How many calories in each bomb?
Shanna
I’ve made these a couple of times and they’re yummy! However, I just made a batch and there is a white layer of coconut oil on the top. I melted them down and remixed them, but they separated again. Any idea why this is happening or how I can fix it? They still taste delicious.
Thanks,
Shanna
Sunny
Do you keep them in the freezer?
Barb
Can I use vanilla extract instead of powder?
The Coconut Mama
Yes! You can use equal amount of vanilla extract.
Isa Ryan
Yuuuuummm I used to make something a lot like this and you’ve inspired me to bust them out again! Thanks!
