Intro

Drop into Popeyes, and you’ll notice some new additions to the menu.
Including some really out there (but potentially great) stuff that they’re testing out for the first time…
Plus some permanent additions that look pretty awesome.

Intro (continued)

I feel like they’ve done a great job of covering a lot of what I’ve been hoping to see from Popeyes for a long time (despite some crushing menu losses), so I figured I’d pick out a few of my favorites.
With that – on to the list!
Starting with a particular favorite…

Pickle glaze chicken sandwich

Most of this sandwich is pretty typical chicken sandwich – fried chicken, pickles, brioche bun.
But the pickle glaze really sets it apart.
I know it sounds weird, but keep in mind – Chick-fil-A uses a pickle brine on its chicken, which explains the uniquely addictive flavor and texture that has helped Chick-fil-A leave the competition in the dust.
Obviously a brine isn’t the same thing as a glaze – one of them carries way more flavor, and it’s the glaze – but it’s just a good highlight that Popeyes knows what it’s doing here.

Pickle lemonade (I know)

Ok – so I know that pickle juice isn’t most people’s favorite thing. (It’s certainly not mine.)
But think about it this way – pickles are just pickled cucumbers.
And cucumber lemonade is awesome.
So pickle lemonade is…kind of like that?
I don’t know. But I’m glad Popeyes is taking risks!

Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich

“Bring me the heat,” we said, and Popeyes sure delivered.
One of the things I appreciate about the Ghost Pepper chicken sandwich is that it’s very simple and direct – you’ve got the chicken and sauce, pickles, and a bun.
That’s it.
No frills. No distractions. Just heat.

Flounder fish sandwich

Popeyes has got a new fish sandwich that’s fantastic.
(And honestly, why didn’t they already have one?)
You can pick either classic or spicy flavor for the fish itself; the sandwich also comes with tartar sauce and pickles.
Think of it as Popeyes’ (long overdue) response to the filet-o-fish (pictured above).
Simple, straightforward, delicious.

Boneless wings

My guess is Popeyes finally got tired of getting asked why they didn’t have boneless wings when everyone else has been heading in that direction.
And boy, did they deliver when they rolled out their boneless wings this summer.
These boneless wings are thick and saucy, exactly the way I like them.

6 flavors

Maybe the best part of their boneless wings is that they didn’t just come out with one or two flavors (which would probably have been a classic and a hot) – they came out with a whopping SIX flavors!
– Classic
– Signature Hot
– Honey Lemon Pepper
– Roasted Garlic Parmesan
– Honey BBQ
– Sweet ‘N Spicy
My favorite?

Definitely Sweet ‘n Spicy

I’m just such a sucker for that combination of heat and sweet.
(The garlic parmesan wings are “just fine” to be honest – I’d focus on the honey lemon pepper and the honey BBQ if you’re looking for something different than my personal favorite.)

Shrimp Tackle Box

Popeyes’ Shrimp tackle box combo is simple and awesome:
Shrimp, a side, a biscuit, and a drink. Plus cocktail sauce.
(The right answer here is fries and a diet coke, but don’t let me bias you.)

Strawberry biscuits

All that heat, and nothing sweet?
Try the strawberry biscuits – the combination of sweet sugar and the sweet/tart combination of the strawberries in the biscuits is just delightful.

Caramel Apple Cheesecake Cup

This is a good solid take on cheesecake, and it doubles as something that will absolutely cool off your mouth after eating the Ghost Pepper chicken sandwich.
Try it – your only complaint will be that you wish there were more graham cracker crust.

7 delicious new menu items

Like I said, I feel like Popeyes really answered some prayers with these. I’ve been wanting them to deliver more heat AND more desserts (and obviously everyone’s been wanting boneless wings for a long time).
I’m just so thrilled that they’ve made this all happen!
(And to the extent that they’re even starting to serve up some great value menu deals as well.)
Which of course brings up one final question:

What should Popeyes do next?

What’s missing from their menu right now?
What would you like to see next?
