A longtime manufacturing site tied to the frozen pizza business is preparing to go dark this summer, bringing another wave of job losses to the food sector. The closure will affect more than 160 workers and marks a major change for one Missouri facility.
General Mills closure
General Mills is set to permanently close its pizza crust manufacturing plant in St. Charles, Missouri, according to a WARN notice filed with the state. The shutdown is expected to eliminate 163 jobs, primarily production-related positions.
The company said job eliminations are expected to occur on or about June 8, 2026, or within two weeks of that date. The St. Charles facility is located at 3850 Millstone Parkway.
Part of broader restructuring plan
The plant closure is part of a larger supply chain restructuring initiative previously disclosed by General Mills in late 2025. The company said the effort is designed to improve competitiveness and streamline operations across its manufacturing network.
General Mills added the St. Charles operation through its 2022 acquisition of TNT Crust, a supplier of frozen pizza crusts serving restaurants, distributors, and retailers.
The company is best known for brands such as Cheerios, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, and Totino’s, giving the closure added attention because of its strong presence in the frozen food market.
Another sign of pressure in food manufacturing
The announcement comes as several food and beverage companies continue to adjust operations amid changing consumer demand, higher costs, and ongoing efficiency efforts.
Plant closures and consolidations have become more common as manufacturers look to reduce expenses and optimize production capacity.
For St. Charles, the shutdown means the loss of a sizable local employer and uncertainty for workers facing another round of manufacturing layoffs in 2026.
