Intro

Biologique Recherche P50 has been hailed as a “facial in a bottle”.
It’s a lotion (more like a toner) that exfoliates and balances the skin’s pH (using vinegar).
The chemical exfoliators in P50 include a combination of lactic acid, malic acid, citric acid, (AHAs), salicylic acid (BHA), and gluconolactone (PHA).
The result is a smoother, brighter complexion (like you just got a facial).
But let’s be real: it’s not for everyone.
I’m talking about the strong scent, the intense burn, and the hefty price tag.
The good news is that there are plenty of exfoliating toners, essences, and other products that bring the same results (or better!).
Here are ten better “facials-in-a-bottle” that deserve a spot on your shelf:

Tarte Knockout Tingling Treatment Toner

Tarte’s Knockout is often mentioned as a dupe for Biologique Recherche P50.
And I have to say, it really feels like it’s doing something (and that’s because it is).
With a mix of lactic and salicylic acid, it’s great for unclogging pores and smoothing skin texture.
Yes, it tingles. But it also works.
Plus, it’s way easier on your wallet than P50.

Moon Juice Acid Potion

This one sounds like a spell, and it kind of is.
A 25% acid complex (glycolic, lactic, salicylic, phytic, and glucuronic acids) makes this a heavy-hitter for texture, tone, and brightness.
If you want that “I just had a facial” feeling at home, this one delivers.

Glossier Solution Skin-Perfecting Daily Chemical Exfoliator

Glossier’s toner has some real exfoliating power, thanks to a 10% blend of AHAs, BHAs, and PHAs.
Think smoother skin, fewer breakouts, and a glowy finish.
It’s a solid entry-level option for people dipping their toes into the acid game.

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One AHA Lactic Acid Treatment

If you’ve ever read a beauty blog in the last five years, you’ve probably heard about Good Genes.
It’s all about that lactic acid — gentle, hydrating, and incredibly effective at evening out tone and fine lines.
And I have to say… the citrusy smell is way better than P50’s eau de vinegar.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Glycolic Essence

Caudalie’s Glycolic Essence is a gentler alternative that may be better for sensitive skin types (or if you’re just getting into exfoliating toners/essences).
It contains exfoliating glycolic acid and hydrating grape water (hence the name) to reduce dark spots and brighten the skin.
I know… this brand is on the expensive side, but it’s a really lovely gentle option.

Paula’s Choice 6% Mandelic Acid + 2% Lactic Acid Liquid Exfoliant

Everyone talks about Paula’s 2% BHA — but this product should not be slept on.
Mandelic acid is great for uneven tone and texture, and the added lactic acid keeps it gentle.
If your skin leans sensitive but you still want results, this is a good option.

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Moisturizer

This moisturizer pulls double duty: hydrates while exfoliating.
It’s loaded with the same alpha and beta hydroxy acids you’d find in the brand’s cult-fave peel pads, but in a silky, hydrating base.
It definitely gives you that post-facial glow (IYKYK).

SkinMedica AHA/BHA Cream

This one’s a favorite among dermatologists for a reason — it works.
Glycolic, lactic, salicylic, and malic acids come together to unclog pores and brighten skin.
It’s strong, so maybe don’t use it daily at first.
But it’s definitely one of the most potent alternatives to P50 on the market.

SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion Toner

This hydrating toner uses a gentle mix of AHAs to sweep away dullness while prepping your skin for serums and moisturizers.
It’s also packed with Pitera (SK-II’s signature fermented ingredient made in Japan), containing antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and amino acids to nourish, hydrate, and strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier.
Sounds like a facial treatment, right?

INNBEAUTY Project Down to Tone Resurfacing Toner

This bold, bright bottle packs six acids (yes, six!) including glycolic, lactic, and salicylic, plus niacinamide for brightening.
The formula also contains soothing elements like aloe and blueberry extract, so it’s strong but balanced.
