OK, first things first, Jack in the Box is an amazing late-night option!
But over the years the number of wonderful options after midnight have grown…and, let’s face it, sometimes you want something other than those Jack in the Box tacos or burgers.
Here are seven strong late-night alternatives that you may like even better than Jack’s…

Whataburger

Late-night case: Like Jack in the Box, most Whataburgers are open 24/7 for your craving needs! Their burgers are obviously what they’re known for (what’s in a name?!?!), but breakfast starts at 11pm…genius! They’ve got stuff like biscuits and gravy, Breakfast on a Bun, pancakes, and taquitos with cheese. Yum!

Waffle House

Late-night case: You know the story. Waffle Houses never close. So reliably so that FEMA uses the Waffle House Index to determine how bad a natural disaster is. If a greasy spoon is what you’re after, there’s no place more craved than Waffle House – at least in its home are in the Southeast. Get any breakfast food you’d like or classic dinners like pork chops or even a T-bone, but obviously you need to get the huge-Eggo-looking waffles!

Cook Out

Late-night case: While not 24 hours a day, Cook Out locations generally stay open till 3 or 4 in the morning.
But what’s better than getting a backyard grilling out meal late night? Char-grilled burgers and hot dogs plues corn dogs and hush puppies!
And getting Cook Out over the top is the barbecue. Burgers are easy, but where else are you going to find good late-night barbecue?

Steak ‘n Shake

Late-night case: Many are open 24/7 but admittedly some do close. If you want to relax in a retro-modern setting after a long day or night, a steakburger, fries, and shake could really hit the spot. Not as many decisions to make at Steak ‘N Shake, but they do have some goodies like hot dogs and chili as well as many milkshake flavors (including Butterfinger!).

Huddle House

Late-night case: As a fellow Southeastern phenomenon, Huddle House often competes with Waffle House for late night love (though not all of HH’s locations are 24/7).
At Huddle House, you can get the full complement of breakfast items like buttermilk pancakes, omelets, biscuit breakfast sandwiches, and maybe even special items waffle breakfast tacos (some with sausage gravy!).
And beyond breakfast, you can get burgers, country fried steak, jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, and chicken wings.
Yum!

IHOP

Late-night case: Some of my best late-night (or early morning) meals have been at IHOP. They’ve got all kinds of food (e.g. fish and shrimp, steaks, sandwiches, etc.), but when your classic name was International House of Pancakes, you gotta go with the pancakes. It’s almost like a Baskin Robbins level of flavors with choices like chocolate chocolate chip pancakes, protein power pancakes, Mexican tres leches pancakes, and New York cheesecakes pancakes. Plus all the normal ones!

Taco Bell

Late-night case: Honestly, I love Taco Bell for lunch or for a normal-hours dinner, but late night is Taco Bell’s specialty!
I’d argue that Taco Bell’s crunchy tacos are the best tacos, period. But that’s just me. Add in the delicious bean burritos, the Mexican pizzas, and novel items like the nacho fries, and taco variants like the Doritos Locos tacos, and Taco Bell hits the spot after midnight!
And watch out if they ever allow you to order the breakfast items outside the true “wake-up” morning hours…
