Cheerios first appeared in 1941, originally called “Cheerioats,” as a quick and easy oat cereal for everyone to enjoy. Over the years, many different flavors of this popular breakfast cereal have been created. While some, like Peach Cheerios and Toasted Coconut Cheerios, were only available for a short time, others have become long-standing favorites.

Some flavors that customers have loved over the years haven’t stayed on shelves. Now, three popular options are being discontinued and won’t be available anymore. While you can still purchase alternatives, it might be time to try making your own cereal, like our coconut cinnamon cereal!

According to AllRecipes.com, General Mills has stopped making three types of Cheerios cereal. The flavors being discontinued are Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Oat Crunch, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios, and Honey Nut Cheerios Minis. These varieties will no longer be available on store shelves.

Introduced in 2013, this cereal was a crunchier, nuttier version of the original Honey Nut Cheerios. It combined honey nut O’s, crispy flakes, and crunchy clusters to create a flavorful, satisfying crunch. The cereal was also marketed as a heart-healthy choice, featuring whole grains and low sodium for a nutritious start to the day.

A reviewer in 2023 said this was their favorite Cheerios flavor so far. They mentioned adding a banana and almond milk, which kept them feeling full for hours.

Introduced in 2017, this cereal combines real cocoa and peanut butter to create a sweeter breakfast option. Since this flavor pairing is already a favorite in many candies and desserts, it quickly became a hit with fans. Like the Medley Oat Crunch, it also features whole grain oats as the main ingredient.

One customer shared that even though they usually don’t like cereal, they absolutely love this product. They said it’s the only cereal they’ll ever eat and called the removal of it a “trash decision”.

Honey Nut Cheerios Minis were introduced in 2023, offering the same great taste as the original Honey Nut Cheerios but in smaller, bite-sized pieces. They still provided whole grains, vitamins, and minerals, just in a fun, mini format. This cereal joined a growing trend of “mini” versions, similar to other options like Lucky Charms Minis, Reese’s Puffs Minis, and Cocoa Puffs Minis.

Many customers have expressed frustration about the discontinuation of their favorite cereal flavors. One person asked why the company would stop making their best flavor and begged for it to return. Another shared how much their family loves Medley Crunch but can’t find it anywhere, calling the situation frustrating. A longtime fan of the cereal, who had been enjoying it for over a decade, complained that only unpopular new flavors seem to be available and asked for the original to come back to stores.

So far, General Mills hasn’t said if they plan to bring back these products or anything like them in the future.

For anyone who enjoys Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch, there are plenty of similar cereals to try. Some great options include Honey Bunches of Oats – Honey Roasted, Cheerios Oat Crunch – Oats ‘N Honey, and Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. Other choices are Malt-O-Meal Honey Nut Scooters, classic Honey Nut Cheerios, and Seven Sundays Little Crispies Honey Almond.
