I love this homemade all purpose cleaner. It cleans up the dirtiest of messes my children make and does so with non-toxic ingredients!
My kids are in bed and now its time to clean my home. My two year old is a messy eater… At this very moment my kitchen table and chairs are covered in peanut butter and cream cheese. He also likes to color on everything… my walls, couch, coffee table and on his hands and feet. There’s a lot of cleaning that happens during nap time! 🙂
I’ve used a lot of natural cleaners in my home and have loved most of them. Since we’re living on a tight budget these days I’m trying to make more of my own cleaning products. I’ve been using essential oils to clean and neutralize odors in my home over the last few months and I’m amazed at how well they work!
I use my homemade cleaning wipes quite a bit, especially when we’re out (I usually try to keep a pack of them in the car for emergencies). For day to day use I’m using my homemade all purpose cleaner. This simple cleaner recipes cleans up the dirtiest of messes my children make and does so with non-toxic ingredients!
Homemade All Purpose Cleaner Recipe
This recipe yields an 8oz bottle of homemade all purpose cleaner. Perhaps best of all, it’s simple and straightforward and uses all natural ingredients!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup distilled water
- 15 drops of essential oils. (Tea Tree is my favorite oil to use)
- 1/2 tablespoon liquid castile soap.
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, all you do is mix them together and pour into a cleaning spray bottle.

What is the significance of using distilled water? Can I use tap water if the cleaner will be used up within a couple weeks? Perhaps distilled water would be best for glass and mirrors, but I’m thinking it wouldn’t make any difference on anything else.

I definitely will try your recipe. Instead of castille soap I use vinegar. But it smells bad if I don`t put enough drops essential oil. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Best regards!

I too would love to be able to purchase a book with all your neat ideas as I am constantly printing off and trying to find a place to keep my sheets of recipes. Any other suggestions?

The oils will not clog the drain. They begin as a liquid and they stay a liquid. Coconut Oil will clog a drain. It begins a solid and will return to a solid, the same as fat from cooking meat, or butter.
Adi
Simply boil hot water and pour down drain as this will change the the oil from solid to liquid and unlike animal fats and things like that which do clog drains this will wash down your drain and not create any issues.
Becky
I’ve used coconut oil for years, now. It’s never clogged my drains. Not even in winter.

sadly thinking the oils can clog the drain…:(

Hey. In the pic it looks like a plastic spray bottle. I’ve always heard to use glass with EOs. Is that true or is plastic OK for this? Also curious if you mix Thieves & Lemon for a total of 15 drops or if you only use a single EO.
Thanks!
The Coconut Mama
The bottle is an amber glass bottle :). I use lemon or thieves but I’m sure a mix of them would work fine together too.

Hi just a Q, if I make salt or sugar scrub with diff essential oils for gifts how long will their shelf life be? need I add something additional for it to last or what

Thanks for the cleaning recipe. How is this for windows – or do you have a better recipe? I live in Hawaii and haven’t yet found a natural window cleaner that will take off all the crud from the winds and ocean that find their way onto my windows. Thanks much!

I’d suggest a bottle of Coke. Be careful not to get it on the paint, but it should take off all sorts o things from the windows.

Is there a book available with recipes with the use of coconut oil that I could buy and refer to. The thought of constantly writing done recipes, printing them out only to lose them is too much and just wasteful. I have found several books. But would like a book that covers food, health, skin, hair, house, etc. Any recommedations.

Good Morning! Great idea making your own!
Question: 15 drop of EO’s…A combination equaling 15?
Rachel Hill
How big of a spray bottle should I use for this? 🙂
Sara
One that holds at least a cup I would say. 🙂

Dollar Tree is a good place to find this sort of item
