Make all-natural soy wax melts at home with this simple recipe, using essential oils and plant-based soy wax.

Wax melts are a great alternative to candles and can be safer since they aren’t burned. While I love to make beeswax wax melts, soy wax melts are another great, eco-friendly alternative.
I love to make wax melts because they allow essential oils to diffuse slowly throughout the day. Plus, you can use wax dyes to create vibrant, colorful wax melts.
For this tutorial, I am making lavender wax melts with purple dye and lavender essential oil. However, you can customize this recipe with different dyes and scents to create your unique wax melts.
How To Make Soy Wax Melts
For this DIY, you will need 1 cup of soy wax, essential oils (or fragrance oils), optional wax dye, dried herbs or flowers, and wax melt molds.

In a double boiler or wax melter, carefully melt the wax. Once the wax is fully melted, remove it from the heat and stir in the essential oils and the dye. Mix well to combine.
Then, quickly and carefully pour the melted wax into the wax melt molds. Be careful not to overfill the molds, as the wax can pour over.

Let the wax cool completely before removing it from the molds.
Once cooled, pop the soy wax melts out of the molds and store it in a container.
Scent Blends and Variations
- Floral Soy Wax Melts – Mix geranium, lavender, or rose essential oils with pink or red colored wax dye to create floral wax melts. You can also use flower-shaped silicone molds if you like.
- Refreshing Wax Melts – Use a mixture of eucalyptus and lemon essential oils and yellow or light green wax dye to create a clean and refreshing wax melt.
- Vanilla Wax Melts – Use vanilla essential oil and even add some vanilla bean powder to the soy wax to create vanilla-scented wax melts.
Molds for Soy Wax Melts
You can use wax melt containers (like these ones) or your favorite shaped silicone molds. I prefer silicone molds because they make it easy to pop out the melts effortlessly.

FAQ
How long do soy wax melts last?
Soy wax melts typically last for 8-12 hours of fragrance, depending on the essential oil concentration and the wax warmer used.
Can I use fragrance oils instead of essential oils?
Yes! Fragrance oils work just as well and can provide stronger or more complex scents.
How should I store soy wax melts?
Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to preserve their scent and prevent melting.
Why aren’t my wax melts releasing much scent?
This could be due to low-quality essential oils or insufficient fragrance concentration. Try increasing the essential oil amount slightly.
Can I reuse melted soy wax?
Yes! Once the fragrance fades, you can remelt the wax and add more essential oils for a new batch.
