This hyaluronic acid serum recipe is perfect for all skin types and moisturizes and repairs the skin. Use daily along with a natural moisturizer for best results.

Do not underestimate the power of serums. I see so many skip this step in their skin routine, yet it’s one of the simplest things that can dramatically impact your skin.
A quality beauty serum comprises organic ingredients designed to target specific skin concerns like fine lines, troubled areas, and puffiness while rejuvenating the skin. For example, I use this beauty face serumthat is made with a mixture of plant-based carrier oils and essential oils. It’s excellent for dry skin and a must in the winter when my skin feels dry all the time, but in spring and summer, I opt for a lighter serum that’s water-based, like this hyaluronic acid serum.
Why Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is naturally found in the skin, where it helps maintain elasticity by trapping moisture, which in turn may smooth the appearance of wrinkles. HA is hydrophilic (water-loving) and binds to water, giving it a dense, gel-like quality.
Hyaluronic acid is present in every cell in the body and serves numerous functions. Among many other things, it helps to lubricate joints, connective tissues, cartilage, and muscles. It also maintains eye, gum, and scalp health and skin elasticity and hydration. However, with age, the ability of the body to produce HA decreases, and we begin to experience signs of aging such as joint pain and stiffness, wrinkly skin, and other problems.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum Recipe
You’ll need hyaluronic acid powder, rosewater and essential oils for this recipe.

Mix 1/8 teaspoon of hyaluronic acid powder with 2 ounces of rosewater.

Use this serum daily on your face and neck area. Store in a dry cool place.
FAQ
Follow the instructions in the recipe card below to make your own serum at home. It’s really easy to make!
Always look for cosmetic grad and low molecular weight powder. If you purchase the larger molecule weight powder, your skin will not absorb the hyaluronic acid.
No, hyaluronic acid cannot be made at home.
The powder needs to be added to a liquid to dissolve. Try adding it to water, rose water, or aloe vera to dissolve the powder.
Rose or other flower hydrosols are a good option. Also, distilled water can be used as well.
You can mix anything water-based with this serum. Aloe vera gel, rose water, or hydrosols are all great options.

The lactic acid helps to stimulate collagen synthesis, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Not only can you use vitamin C and hyaluronic acid together, but when you do, they can help create a more effective skincare routine.
Can someone tell me the gram equivalent of 1/8 teaspoon of the Hyaluronic Acid. I have searched but cannot find any info. on the web for Hyaluronic Acid.
Thanks.

I made the serum mixing the HA with George’s Aloe, which has a water consistency. George’s Aloe has no preservatives but does not need to be refrigerated. Do you think, the serum can be kept out of fridge as well?
Hello! Thank you for this amazing recipe. But I want to ask you a couple of questions. Do you have to do anything special to add it to creams, with oils etc? I’m guessing it would be in the cool down phase? I made this recipe thanks to you, it’s so much cheaper so I’ve been using it on my body too. Thank you for sharing, I had no idea what a gem this would be for my skin, my skin really does look and feel more hydrated.
I have high hopes, but I just made this using the exact ingredients listed and my formula is a liquid, not a serum. Does it take a while to thicken?
This particular recipe calls for a super low molecular weight hyaluronic acid so it won’t thicken it will always be water like unless you add a higher molecular weight hyaluronic acid something in the range of 1 million Daltons or a gelling agent of your choice . Hope this helps.
Could you use this formula with a derma roller on your arms?
Vitamin E is not a preservative! Mixed tocopherols are used as anti-oxidising agents for skin care containing large oil % – making sure oils do not go bad!
Do you know what concentration of HA is in this serum when
Made?
go to school first
There is an increasing interest among consumers to look young and thus this has surged the demand for cosmetic procedures that include hyaluronic acid dermal filler consumption, propelling the market demand during the forecast period.
Coconut Mama,
Thank you so much for this recipe! It’s so economical and my skin really needs the boost!
Thanks!

Can i use organic coconut oil with pure almond oil in this recipe?
You can try it for sure! My only concern is that hyaluronic acid is water-soluble, which is why this serum is made with rose water and aloe rather than coconut oil. You may need to use an emulsifier to keep the mixture from seperating.
Does adding glycerin make this product last longer. Is it a preservative? Great info, thanks ?
I wonder why mine pills up when I add moisturizer over it in morning. Do you think I am using to much?
Can I use Lavender Flower water instead or Rose Water ? Thanks Mrs Coconut!
Hi I want to know since you are using water/ rose water, are you are suppose to use preservative also because after a week It will start grow bacteria and mold, even if you can’t see it because there won’t be preservative.
Also can aloe vera gel be used instead of water so it will have longer shelf life ?
This recipe makes such a small amount, it should only last a few weeks. I only use rosewater, but it’s still effective if you use water. Adding some vitamin d or rosemary antioxidant will definitely extend the shelf life.
Brilliant recipe. I just wanted to point out that Rosemary oil or some of the known antioxidants are not preservatives as previously assumed ( current research). There are around 3 natural preservatives that are effective for serums or face creams that are water based. One of them is a broad spectrum preservative called Preservative Eco or Geogard ECT. It’s natural and meets COSMOS standards. I order them from Aromantics UK
vitamin d or rosemary will not extend the shelf life -its needs a broad spectrum preservative
I use it with Aloe Vera gel HA and essential oils mixed up and put in empty pump bottle.
hey jane, im about to do exactly that (↑) aloe + ha + e.oil, can you advise the parts/ratio you do your mixture with please….thanks!!!!
You can add vitamin E to the mixture to make it last longer shelf wise. It’s a natural preservative. Plus it’s a great benefit to the skin as well.

The coconut mama is one of the best we have found, and
the DIY Anti-Aging Hyaluronic Acid Serum Recipe article
is very well written and useful!
Thanks and kisses! 🙂
What amount do you use on your face each time? Day and Night?
I have mine in a pump, so I use one pump in the am and one at night. It’s equivalent to 1/2 teaspoon.
hello 🙂
Could i use a preservative to make this recipe lasts longer?
Thank you 🙂
What is the purpose of the essential oil? Is it necessary for this to work fully?
Added benefit. You don’t have to add them if you’d rather not.
I added 1/4 tsp of soluble collagen hydrolysis, and a pinch of non-soluble gelatin collagen to give it more of a serum texture. Plus the added ingredient help with elasticity and anti-aging.
Just got this recipe in your newsletter and am ordering ingredients – thank you!
Question: you do mention the importance of using organic and I notice that the Rosewater in your link is not. Naturally, it’s half the price. Was this an oversight or is it an ingredient that organic isn’t as important?
Good question! Organic is best! But to be honest, this is the brand that I’ve been using for a long time and really love their products. Their hydrosols are clean (no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates) and the prices are great.
I would like to know the reason you don’t recommend the unpretentious skincare hyaluronic acid anymore.I see that the price is cheaper and pretty much the same exact thing. Also can colloidal silver be used instead so I don’t have to worry about mold (I will still keep it in the fridge and most likely half the recipe too ,just to be sure).
Colloidal silver can be mixed ? I though its not allow to mixed with anything, it will loose is affect.?
I have made this recipe several times but mine does not gel. It just stays watery. How can I fix this?
It’s not going to be a thick gel but it should become slightly gel-like. May I ask if you’re using water or rose water for the base? That may be why it isn’t gelling up.
Am I able to use jojoba oil instead of essential oils?
No, just leave out the essential oils if you don’t want to use them.
Which molecular weight was the hyaluronic acid you used? If you used a low one that’s why.
I made this serum using the rosewater I made myself (rose petals, distilled water, witch hazel) and loved it! My only problem is that it got moldy pretty quickly, even though I had it in a dark amber bottle. What could I have done wrong? And, how can I make it keep longer??
Hmm I’m not exactly sure why it went moldy. It could be from the rose water you made?
Love this stuff! My skin feels so good!
What is the life of this?
What is the shelf of this please? Sounds so nice with the scent of roses.
Mine lasted 2 months.
Is Rose Hydrosol the same as rose water?
They aren’t, but rose hydrosol is a great substitute for rose water for this recipe.
Awesome thanks
Where do you buy the Neroli oil for your serum?
Young Living 🙂
Hi. Do you know if there is a way to make a thunder hyaluronic acid serum? My recipe always comes out too thick. . Also, I use 1% in rosewater but it never weighs completely to 2 oz. Do you know why the liquid isnt reaching the top? Thank you.
I recently learned (from Go See Christy on YouTube) that using powder with high and low molecular weight is even better, the high molecular weight acts more on the surface of your skin while the low molecular weight has smaller particles and sinks deeper into your skin.
Monique, what specific powder has both high and low?
