Dunkin’, of course, has its fans in New England and Krispy Kreme has its lovers in the South (it’s from North Carolina originally).
So we go to the “neutral” parts of the country as the true test.
And everywhere else, Dunkin’ may get some love for its coffee and “non-Starbucks-ness,” but it’s Krispy Kreme that gets the most ardent screams of joy when you say its name.

If you just want the classics, neither chain will disappoint.
But if you want variety, it’s gotta be Dunkin’! They have so many, including seasonal varieties and donuts to support your favorite local sports team (e.g. the #ALLCAPS donuts in the DC area and the Fenway Faithful Donut around Boston).

Dunkin’ doesn’t have the strongest lineup of savory choices (e.g. its breakfast sandwiches), but Krispy Kreme doesn’t even have the option…it’s a straight dessert and drinks shop.
Plus, Dunkin’s coffee is at least more well-known. At this point, it might be better known for its coffee than its donuts. Hidden gem: it’s hot chocolate is very good!

The price of a donut is pretty comparable between the two.
If you want to be precise on a winner, it depends by location, whether you’re getting a single donut or a dozen, and whether you’re getting a variety or just glazed.

Taste is a landslide.
Krispy Kreme is better at room temperature and by a lot if the “Hot Light” is on!
It’s the wonderful glaze. Personal favorite…the chocolate iced doughnut. Gotta love glazed + chocolate…

Purely based on points, it’s a tie at 2.5 to 2.5.
But Taste is the the tiebreaker since it’s the most important factor.
And that’s Krispy Kreme by a country mile.
