As if Texas needed more bad news.
Fresh off the loss of several factories across the state…
And with another painful loss incoming…
Unfortunately the bad news keeps piling up across Texas.

More specifically, eight employers in the food and beverage sectors across the Lone Star State have had to lay off employees recently. Including:
- HelloFresh (which closed a distribution center in Grand Prairie)
- Chewy (shut down a fulfillment center in Dallas)
- Country Pure Foods (closed a factory in Houston)
- F&S Produce (layoffs in Houston)
- Fresh & Ready Foods (Dallas)
- Tyson Foods (layoffs in Fort Worth)
- Blue Bell Creameries (layoffs in Brenham)
- Owens-Brockway Glass Container, Inc. (idled a beer bottle production furnace in Waco and laid workers off)
As you can see, these aren’t issues confined to one area of the state – the layoffs are happening practically everywhere.
And that really highlights the systemic nature of the challenges facing the food industry in 2025.
Because, in addition to stubborn inflation, complex supply chains, and labor shortages (all of which have been issues since the pandemic)…
This year we’ve added on the trade war (including foreign boycotts of many US products) and falling domestic demand as the economy slows and consumers tighten their belts.
It’s a rough combination, and of course it makes sense that food and beverage businesses are cutting jobs as they try to stay afloat.
But that doesn’t change the fact that these aren’t issues confined painful losses for these communities across Texas – and especially for the workers who have lost jobs and their families.
Let’s all leave them a kind or encouraging word in the comments section – it’s the least we can do as they navigate these tough times.
