Wendy’s customers could see more restaurants disappear in the coming weeks as one of the burger chain’s largest franchise operators works through bankruptcy. The company has already shuttered dozens of locations, and court documents indicate that as many as 60 additional restaurants could close by mid-November.
Wendy’s closures could continue through November
Meritage Hospitality Group, a Michigan-based restaurant operator, could close up to 60 Wendy’s locations through November 13, according to recent court filings reported by Nation’s Restaurant News.
The franchisee has already closed 33 restaurants since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on September 17. The latest round included 13 additional closures in October, continuing a series of shutdowns that began in late September.
The potential November closures would add to approximately 60 Wendy’s restaurants Meritage closed earlier in 2026, before entering bankruptcy proceedings.
Meritage operated 314 Wendy’s locations when it filed for bankruptcy. If another 60 restaurants close, the company will have substantially reduced its footprint as it works to restructure its business.
Why more Wendy’s restaurants could shut down
Court documents indicate that the restaurants being considered for closure are generally underperforming locations that lose money.
Some generated less than $900,000 in annual revenue, while others recorded losses approaching $200,000 over the previous 12 months. Closing unprofitable restaurants is intended to preserve cash as the company navigates its financial difficulties.
Meritage has cited several challenges contributing to its financial problems, including rising beef costs, weaker sales, and concerns about Wendy’s marketing effectiveness.
The bankruptcy also comes as Wendy’s works to improve its overall performance amid increased competition and pressure on fast-food spending.
Which Wendy’s locations will close next?
The complete list of potential November closures has not been publicly confirmed. The anticipated shutdowns are part of an ongoing process, meaning individual restaurant decisions may change as bankruptcy proceedings continue.
Customers should check Wendy’s official restaurant locator for current operating information before visiting a location.
For now, the potential closures represent another significant development for Wendy’s as the chain and its franchise operators work to address financial and operational challenges.
