Intro

Move over, Chick-fil-A and Popeye’s. A smaller (but proving to be mighty) chain is working its way up in popularity among chicken restaurants. If you haven’t heard about it yet, it’s probably just a matter of time at the rate of its expansion…

Raising Cane’s

Raising Cane’s opened its first location in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Its founder, Todd Graves, named the restaurant after his beloved Labrador retriever, Raising Cane.
With a simple menu based around chicken fingers and crinkle-cut fries, Raising Cane’s popularity soared as the chain has grown to over 800 locations in the US today.

Rapid growth

Raising Cane’s had a record-breaking year in terms of growth in 2024. The company set out to open 100 locations by the end of the calendar year. That goal was exceeded with the opening of 118 new restaurants in 2024, and that’s not the end of their massive expansion plan…

Plans for new locations in 2025

Raising Cane’s has already opened over 20 new locations this year (by the end of the first quarter), “…with plans to open nearly 100 new restaurants across several new markets in 2025 by year’s end,” according to the company’s spokesperson.
Several of these new locations have already been announced…

There is already a Raising Cane’s in San Diego, which is around 20 minutes away from Poway.

#2: Las Vegas, Nevada

Not long after the launch in Poway, a new location will be opening in Las Vegas on July 29th. This will be Las Vegas’ 16th Raising Cane’s location!
The location for the new Raising Cane’s is 6440 S Eastern Ave.

#3: Fall River, Massachusetts

If you live in Fall River, MA, mark your calendar for August 5th! The address of the new Raising Cane’s is 323 William S Canning Blvd, and it’s Fall River’s first Raising Cane’s location.

#4: St. Petersburg, Florida

The same day as Raising Cane’s debut in Fall River, MA (August 5th), St. Petersburg will be getting a new location of its own at 2700 Tyrone Blvd N. This will be the area’s first Raising Cane’s as well, so pretty exciting stuff!

#5: Indiana, Pennsylvania

On August 7th, the small borough of Indiana (about an hour outside of Pittsburgh) will get its very own Raising Cane’s location. There are already four Raising Cane’s locations in and surrounding Pittsburgh, but this is great news for those who live closer to the Indiana area.

#6: Riverbank, California

On August 12th, a new location will be opened at 2029 Claribel Road in Riverbank, CA. Currently, the closest Raising Cane’s to this soon-to-be location is around 20 minutes away in Modesto, California. (Behind Texas, California has the second-highest number of Raising Cane’s with 117 (including the locations opening soon).

2025 and beyond

That list of new Raising Cane’s locations isn’t exhaustive – those are just the ones opening in the coming weeks. We’ll likely see many more locations besides these, and well into 2026.
Raising Cane’s representative has this to say about growth plans: “In 2026, Raising Cane’s will continue its growth in both new and existing Communities with nearly 100 new Restaurants planned to open nationwide…”

Big goals

Raising Cane’s founder and CEO, Todd Graves, expressed his big dreams for Raising Cane’s in 2024: “Our next aspiration is to be a top 10 restaurant brand in the U.S. Think of the big boys – McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Starbucks, Subway – companies that have been open a lot longer than we have.”

Summary

Given how rapidly Raising Cane’s is punching out new locations and its CEO’s lofty aspirations for continued growth, it’s safe to say we’ll probably only be seeing more of this chain that centers itself around chicken fingers.
Have you eaten at a Raising Cane’s before? (There aren’t any in my area, so I can’t say that I have!)
If so, what did you think? Is it better than Chick-fil-A, Popeye’s, KFC, or other top chicken restaurants? Let me know in the comments!
