Starbucks is continuing to reshape its corporate workforce as CEO Brian Niccol pushes forward with a companywide turnaround strategy. The latest round of job cuts affects hundreds of corporate employees and comes as the coffee giant works to simplify operations and improve long-term performance.
Hundreds of corporate jobs eliminated
In May, Starbucks announced it would eliminate approximately 300 U.S. corporate positions while also closing several regional support offices in Atlanta, Burbank, Chicago, and Dallas. The layoffs affect non-retail employees in departments including marketing, finance, human resources and supply chain management.
The company said the restructuring is expected to result in approximately $400 million in charges related to severance, office closures, and other organizational changes. Starbucks emphasized that the layoffs do not affect baristas, shift supervisors, or other café employees.
Part of a broader turnaround strategy
The workforce reductions are part of Niccol’s “Back to Starbucks” plan, which is focused on streamlining the company’s organizational structure, speeding up decision-making, and investing more resources in the customer experience. Alongside the corporate restructuring, Starbucks has continued investing in its cafés by simplifying operations and improving service.
Follows larger workforce reductions last year
The latest layoffs follow a much larger corporate restructuring announced in 2025, when Starbucks eliminated approximately 1,100 corporate positions globally and left several hundred open jobs unfilled. While that earlier reduction was separate from this year’s actions, both are part of the company’s broader effort to create a leaner organization and return the business to sustainable growth.
As Starbucks navigates slowing sales and increased competition in the coffee industry, company leaders say a more streamlined corporate structure will help the brand operate more efficiently while continuing to invest in its retail stores and customer experience.
