A major snack food company is preparing to cut nearly 100 jobs at an Alabama facility, adding another round of layoffs to the food manufacturing industry. The cuts come from Flagstone Foods, the company behind several well-known snack brands, including Emerald Nuts.
98 workers will lose their jobs
Flagstone Foods reported plans to lay off 98 employees at its Dothan, Alabama, facility, according to the Alabama Department of Labor’s WARN notice. The notice was filed August 20, with the layoffs scheduled to begin October 22.
The Alabama WARN filing identifies the action as a layoff rather than a permanent facility closure. It does not indicate that the Dothan operation itself is shutting down.
Flagstone Foods owns Emerald Nuts
Flagstone Foods is a major producer of nuts, trail mixes, dried fruit, and other snack foods. Its portfolio includes Emerald Nuts, one of the company’s best-known consumer brands.
The Dothan facility is part of Flagstone Foods’ broader manufacturing network. The company has operations in multiple states and supplies packaged snack products to retailers across the country.
New layoffs follow earlier Flagstone cuts
The Alabama layoffs come after Flagstone Foods announced significant workforce reductions at another facility last year.
In 2025, the company planned to eliminate approximately 225 positions at its El Paso, Texas, facility as part of a restructuring that would shift production to facilities in Robersonville, North Carolina, and Dothan, Alabama.
That makes the latest Alabama cuts notable because Dothan was previously identified as one of the facilities expected to receive some production from the El Paso operation.
Food industry continues to see job cuts
Flagstone Foods is among several food and manufacturing companies announcing layoffs in recent weeks as businesses adjust their operations and production networks.
The latest WARN filing puts the Dothan layoffs among the newest food-industry job cuts reported in Alabama. For the affected employees, the Oct. 22 start date gives workers several weeks to seek new employment before the reductions begin.
The company has not indicated that the latest layoffs will affect the availability of Emerald Nuts or other Flagstone Foods products in stores.
