Intro

It’s been a wild year already for Americans, and it started early. With major changes to DEI policies by the Trump administration in January, to the signing of an order imposing tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China on February 1st, it’s a lot to take in.
In a turbulent economic and political time, some Americans are finding glimmers of joy in small ways, including the reintroduction of a loved McDonald’s menu item that’s been MIA for nine years…

The Snack Wrap returns

McDonald’s Snack Wraps initially debuted in 2006. They were changed a few times over the years, and then were removed from the menu in 2016.
Fans of the Snack Wrap were sad to see it go, not knowing if the menu favorite would ever be seen again. Snack Wrap fans can rejoice, since they’ve made a long-awaited comeback and were officially added to the menu on July 10, 2025.

McDonald’s statement

McDonald’s acknowledged the power of Snack Wrap fans, saying, “From countless social media posts to full-fledged petitions, they never gave up on their favorite menu item. They’re the ones who inspired us to make its return to the menu happen.”

Why was the Snack Wrap discontinued?

The Snack Wraps weren’t selling enough to warrant the fact that they’re more time-consuming to make compared to other products.
What all is in a Snack Wrap, anyway? Glad you asked!

McDonald’s is offering the Snack Wrap in two flavors: Spicy and Ranch.
Here are the descriptions from the McDonald’s menu:

Spicy: McCrispy™ Strip topped with shredded cheese and shredded lettuce, all brought together with Spicy Pepper sauce and wrapped in a soft tortilla.

Snack Wrap prices

The Snack Wraps are $2.99 on their own, or $9.59 as a medium meal that includes two Snack Wraps, medium fries, and a medium drink. (You can also choose a large meal for $10.79, which only increases the size of the fries and drink.)

The nutrition stats for the Ranch Snack Wrap and Spicy Snack Wrap are very similar:

Total carbs: 30 g
Protein: 17 g
Spicy Snack Wrap:
Calories: 380
Total fat: 22 grams (includes 6 grams saturated)
Total carbs: 31 g
Protein: 17 g
For curious minds, here’s a comparison with the McChicken Sandwich, which is similar in nutrition stats:
McChicken Sandwich:
Calories: 390
Total fat: 21 grams (includes 3.5 grams saturated)
Total carbs: 38 g
Protein: 14 g

Snack Wrap Nutrition (continued)

As you can see, the Snack Wraps offer a little more protein, are slightly lower in carbs, but are almost twice as high in saturated fat as the McChicken. (The higher saturated fat content is because of the cheese in the Snack Wraps.)
Time will tell if the Snack Wraps stay popular, given that they are a little similar to the McChicken.

DEI protests and McDonald’s

Now let’s revisit how the DEI protests fit into the whole equation with McDonald’s sales.
McDonald’s was one of many companies announcing the rollback of its DEI program. DEI stands for diversity, equality, and inclusion, and these programs aim to offer fair access to opportunities among historically underrepresented people based on factors like race, gender, disability, and LGBTQ+ status.

McDonald’s sales down post-boycott

Protesters of the cessation of DEI programs boycotted many of these companies, including McDonald’s.
It’s hard to know just how much the boycotts impacted sales since there are many other factors impacting buying patterns among Americans (tariffs, economic uncertainty…).
However, according to an earnings report for Q1 of 2025 (ending March 31), McDonald’s experienced a 3% drop in revenue. Same-store sales in the US also dropped 3.6% from 2024, which marks the most significant decline since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when Americans were opting to eat at home instead of dining out.

Traffic drastically increases with Snack Wrap revival

The Snack Wrap increased the traffic to McDonald’s, and in a BIG way, which was much-needed after a decline in revenue earlier this year.
McDonald’s experienced an increase in traffic of 15% on July 10 (the date the Snack Wrap was re-released) compared to the year-to-date average. The next day on July 11, visits increased an astonishing 22.3% compared to the year-to-date average.

Summary

The revival of the nostalgic Snack Wrap seems to be a good business decision. It’ll be interesting to see if the Snack Wrap continues to do well in sales as time goes on, given that it was previously discontinued due to lackluster sales and increased labor time required for preparation.
Are you a Snack Wrap fan? If so, will you order it instead of other menu items moving forward? Let me know in the comments!
