Massachusetts seems to be getting more than its fair share of bad news lately.
More specifically, a number of beloved chain restaurants are rapidly closing locations, reducing the number of choices residents have when eating out.

The issues are, of course, not specific to Massachusetts – rising food and labor costs, worker shortages, uncertain consumer demand, and the rise of food delivery apps – but they certainly seem to be hitting Massachusetts hard.
And while Massachusetts has fortunately been spared (thus far) from some of the highest-profile nationwide downsizings – Denny’s comes to mind – these losses certainly still hurt.
Bertucci’s (which I know we’re supposed to know for its pizza, but honestly it was always about the rolls for me) is going through its third bankruptcy in seven years, and Massachusetts is on the chopping block. The beleaguered chain is closing four more locations in the state.
Bahama Breeze (which is owned by the Darden restaurant conglomerate) only had one Massachusetts location – in Tyngsborough – but has closed that as part of a 15-store downsizing nationwide.
