New Jersey’s had a rough go of it lately.
More specifically, it recently watched three more factories close as jobs continue to flee the state.

Every closure is unique – some factories go under because of tariffs, others because of global streamlining, others still because of relocations to states with friendlier labor laws…
But the pain felt by the workers who have lost their jobs and the economies that have lost just that little extra bit of dynamism is universal.
These are their stories.
- Seviroli Foods, which makes frozen pasta, is closing its Bellmawr plant as of this coming Wednesday, 8/13 – with an estimated 77 jobs lost.
- Panera Bread is closing down its local fresh dough facility in Edison (part of a nationwide shakeup as the chain pivots away from fresh baked bread), with 201 jobs reportedly to be lost in September.
- LiDestri Foods, which is a contract manufacturer, announced in May that it would be closing down its Pennsauken facility, at a cost of 146 jobs.

There will certainly be people who are quick to blame macro issues (like the trade war) or the state’s tax and regulatory climate for these losses.
But let’s instead focus on the workers – who, after (in many cases) years of loyal service will now have to find a new job in what is certainly not a great hiring climate.
If you have advice, encouragement, or appreciate to share with those workers, please leave it in a comment on this article.
After all, we’re all in this together.
