Another Michigan brewery and restaurant is preparing to pour its final pint.
Cadillac Straits Brewing Company, a craft brewery, taproom, and homebrewing supply store in Madison Heights, announced it will permanently close after seven years in business, citing ongoing financial challenges that made it impossible to continue operating.
The brewery’s final day was scheduled for July 18, marking the end of a business that opened just before the COVID-19 pandemic and built a loyal following among Metro Detroit craft beer enthusiasts.
Owners say business is no longer sustainable
In a message shared with customers, the owners said the decision “was not made lightly,” explaining that current market conditions, combined with opening shortly before the pandemic, ultimately made continued operations unsustainable.
They also thanked employees and customers for supporting the brewery over the past seven years, saying they were proud of the community they had built despite the challenges.
More than just a brewery
Cadillac Straits distinguished itself by combining a craft brewery with The Supply House, an attached homebrew supply store serving hobbyists and aspiring brewers. Founded by two longtime homebrewers and former engineers, the business became known for its rotating lineup of beers, including its flagship Tough Eddie IPA, while also offering ingredients and equipment for homebrewing enthusiasts.
Part of a challenging year for craft breweries
The closure reflects broader pressures facing many independent breweries, including higher operating costs, changing consumer spending habits, and increased competition in the craft beer industry. According to the owners, those factors—combined with the lingering effects of launching just before the pandemic—proved too difficult to overcome.
Before closing, Cadillac Straits plans to hold a farewell celebration for customers. The owners have also indicated they may sell the turnkey brewery if a serious buyer emerges, with brewing equipment expected to be sold if no deal is reached.
