The Texas retail downturn keeps claiming more victims.
The latest – three beloved local breweries forced to close (no doubt in part because economic pressures have simply proven too much).

This continues a trend we saw in 2024 when Texas lost a whopping 29 breweries statewide.
Here’s hoping the losses aren’t as severe in 2025.
Of course, every loss hurts – and these do more than most!
North Shepard Brewing (formerly known as Astral Brewing) closed down in late June (the owner cited “personal reasons”). Its Pinemont IPA (a beautiful mix of grapefruit flavors) and Dry Irish stout will especially be missed.
The other two breweries were both operated by Elder Son Brewing – one in North Houston and the other in The Heights – and both closed earlier this Summer as well. In contrast to North Shepard, which was primarily an IPA shop, Elder Son brewed a variety of dark beers, wine, and cider. Unfortunately, they’re all gone too.

Here’s hoping things get better soon – and fast.
Did you get to try any of these local brews before they disappeared forever? Any great memories to share? Any advice for other local breweries to check out? Leave a comment and share!
