Nebraska is facing more incoming bad news after what has already been a tough 2025.
After Nebraska’s beef industry was already rocked by disruptive ICE raids…
Now the clock is counting down to the loss of a major employer and hundreds of jobs.

More specifically, WK Kellogg Co – maker of iconic cereal brands like Froot Loops, Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran, and Rice Crispies – has announced plans to close its production factory based in Omaha, Nebraska.
It’s part of a larger plan to streamline Kellogg’s production pipeline across plants in multiple states that is expected to cost several hundred jobs.
The timeline for the Omaha plant closure calls for production reductions this year and full closure in 2026.
Kellogg and other cereal companies are facing a long term decline in demand for their products as Americans try to cut sugar and carbs – both of which, of course, are present in lots of cereals.
Add to that the newer issues of inflation, labor shortages, and supply chain realignments, and it’s no surprise that Kellogg is reducing production and cutting jobs.
(And let’s face it – with ongoing foreign boycotts of American goods in the wake of the trade war’s launch, there’s ever reason to believe demand will continue declining.)
But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a raw deal for all the hardworking Nebraskans who did nothing wrong and are still losing their jobs.
