New York City is in many ways a microcosm of America, with many of the same issues straining businesses across the country magnified locally.
And unfortunately, that means the local restaurant scene is taking a ton of hits – with 11 NYC restaurants recently closing (and more likely on the way).

The issues at play here are nothing new – on the demand side, hybrid work has caused market distortions, layoffs and job uncertainty have curbed some consumer spending, and inflation has caused price hikes which may depress some spending.
Add to that hikes in electricity prices (a nationwide phenomenon, unfortunately, with over 40 states seeing price hikes year over year), increasing labor costs, and the fact that underlying food costs are still up near their inflationary peak, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

Even in a market as big, wealthy, and dynamic as NYC, local restaurants aren’t immune to all of these pressures.
