The whole food industry is suffering this year.
From tariff disruptions…
To mass restaurant closures…
And now the issues have come all the way to grocery stores.

New York has recently lost four:
- Garden of Eden (Manhattan)
- Tops Friendly Markets (DeWitt)
- Weedsport Shurfine (Cayuga County)
- Stella’s Fine Market (Beacon)
Grocery stores – especially independent grocery stores – are facing enormous challenges in 2025.
Spiking food and labor costs, supply chain difficulties, and consumer spending reductions are just the beginning.
It’s no wonder so many grocery stores are throwing in the towel.
