Oklahoma has been surrounded by Buc-ee’s states for years, but the Sooner State still does not have one of its own. That could eventually change as Buc-ee’s keeps pushing into new territory, but the latest update is more “maybe” than “moving dirt” — even as the chain continues adding states to its national growth list.
The most recent serious update came from Oklahoma City.

News 9 first reported in February that city officials had confirmed preliminary exploratory discussions with Buc-ee’s, with The Oklahoman following up with more detailed reporting. Kenton Tsoodle, President and CEO of the Alliance for Economic Development of Oklahoma City, said the group had preliminary discussions with the company and is “actively looking at multiple locations” for a potential site, but no decisions have been made. A Buc-ee’s media representative did not comment on the possibility of an Oklahoma store.
The rumored site is at I-40 and Cimarron Road, between El Reno and Yukon, just west of Oklahoma City. KFOR reported the Oklahoma Department of Transportation might need to rework the interchange because of the traffic a Buc-ee’s typically generates — a familiar issue the chain has run into in other states, including Idaho.
Oklahoma is also not new on Buc-ee’s radar. Buc-ee’s General Counsel Jeff Nadalo confirmed in 2024 that the chain had its sights set on Oklahoma for future locations, though no sites or timelines were announced at the time. And in January 2026, City of Edmond officials reportedly mentioned Buc-ee’s in a discussion of notable anchors the city could draw for economic development.
That is the key point for Oklahoma readers.
There is no confirmed Buc-ee’s location in Oklahoma right now.
There is no announced opening date.
There is no formal construction timeline.
And there is no public store address.
But there is interest, and that is enough to keep the rumor mill going.
Oklahoma would make plenty of sense for Buc-ee’s. The state sits between Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and other markets where the chain either already operates or has been expanding. Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and major interstate corridors like I-35, I-40, and I-44 would all seem like natural places for a travel-center brand that thrives on long-haul drivers and road-trip traffic.
The closest Buc-ee’s options for many Oklahoma drivers are still across state lines, including stores in Texas and Missouri. That makes Oklahoma one of the more obvious gaps on the map.
Still, Buc-ee’s rumors are easy to overstate.
The company has had to push back on false or premature location claims in other states. In May 2026, Buc-ee’s publicly said it had no plans for a Plainfield Township, Pennsylvania location after a fake letter of intent dated May 4 circulated on social media. Plainfield Township Manager Paige Stefanelli called it a hoax, telling reporters: “I believe someone is just simply stirring the pot. At least we all got a good laugh!” That is a useful reminder that not every Buc-ee’s rumor becomes a store.
For now, Oklahoma fans should treat the situation carefully.
The state appears to be on Buc-ee’s radar, and Oklahoma City has acknowledged early conversations. But until there is a signed agreement, site plan, city approval, or official Buc-ee’s announcement, it remains a possibility — not a done deal.
The Sooner State may eventually get its beaver sign.
But for now, Oklahoma is still waiting for Buc-ee’s to make the first real move.
