One of America’s most recognizable burger chains has shut down another restaurant as the fast-casual industry continues facing economic pressure nationwide. The latest closure adds Georgia to a growing list of states losing locations this year.
Five Guys restaurant in Atlanta slated for closure amid nationwide cutbacks
A Five Guys location in Atlanta, Georgia, has closed as the burger chain continues reducing its footprint in select markets across the country. The location at 3393 Peachtree Rd NE is already marked as “permanently closed” on Google, yet a specific closing date isn’t widely available.
According to reports, the Atlanta restaurant is one of at least 14 Five Guys locations that have either already closed or are planning to shut down during the first half of 2026.
Restaurant closures continue across several states
The Georgia location joins planned or completed closures in Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Florida and Nebraska. California has seen the highest number of impacted restaurants, with several locations already closed and more expected to shut down later this year.
Other affected restaurants include locations in Naperville, Illinois; Dubuque, Iowa; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Tampa, Florida; and Lincoln, Nebraska. Additional closures have also been reported in California, which is the hardest hit state among the current sweep of Five Guys closures.
Restaurant industry experts say many chains are continuing to deal with rising labor expenses, higher food costs and more cautious consumer spending habits. In response, some brands have chosen to close lower-performing restaurants while concentrating on markets with stronger long-term growth potential – while others have had to file for bankruptcy.
Five Guys still expanding in select markets
Despite the recent closures, Five Guys continues opening restaurants in other parts of the country. The company still operates more than 1,500 locations nationwide and nearly 2,000 worldwide.
Recent openings in states such as Texas, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi indicate the company is still pursuing expansion opportunities while scaling back in certain areas. (Las Vegas is reportedly getting its first Five Guys location this summer, and it’ll be open until 2:00 AM!)
As restaurant chains across the country adjust to changing economic conditions, Five Guys remains one of the largest names in the premium burger segment, even as it reevaluates parts of its restaurant portfolio.
