For months, Bahama Breeze fans feared the beloved Florida-born chain was headed for extinction after widespread restaurant closures.
Now, the remaining Florida locations have been given a lifeline—but they’ll soon look very different.
Most remaining Florida restaurants will become new concepts
Darden Restaurants has confirmed that the remaining 14 Bahama Breeze restaurants nationwide will be converted into other brands within its restaurant portfolio over the next 12 to 18 months. Ten of those locations are in Florida, making the Sunshine State the center of the company’s transition plan.
Rather than closing permanently, the restaurants will continue operating until temporary shutdowns are needed for renovations. Darden has not publicly identified the replacement brand for every location, but the conversions mean the properties will remain active restaurants instead of joining the growing list of vacant retail spaces.
Some replacements are already taking shape
Although Darden has not released a complete list of replacement concepts, at least two Florida locations have begun to come into focus. A Bahama Breeze near Orlando’s Waterford Lakes area is expected to become a Chuy’s, while the restaurant near Wesley Chapel is slated to be converted into a Yard House, according to multiple reports.
Founded in Orlando in 1996, Bahama Breeze built its reputation on Caribbean-inspired dishes, tropical cocktails, and a laid-back island atmosphere. While the brand itself is being phased out, the decision to convert rather than permanently close many of its Florida restaurants offers a more optimistic outcome for employees, customers, and local communities.

The full conversion process is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, marking the final chapter for the Bahama Breeze name while giving many of its former locations a fresh start under new restaurant concepts.
