Popular French café closes its only location as parent company shuts down after more than 30 years

A popular French-inspired café known for its pastries, brunch and neighborhood atmosphere has permanently closed its doors.

Petite Left Bank in Tiburon has ceased operations after parent company Vine Hospitality announced it is shutting down its restaurant business. The closure is part of the company’s broader exit from the restaurant industry, a move expected to eliminate approximately 300 jobs across its portfolio.

Tiburon café serves its final customers

Located in downtown Tiburon, Petite Left Bank offered a more casual take on the company’s classic French brasserie concept. The café was known for breakfast and brunch dishes, sandwiches, salads, baked goods and coffee, attracting both locals and visitors looking for a relaxed French-inspired dining experience.

The restaurant permanently closed as Vine Hospitality wound down all of its remaining operations, ending Petite Left Bank’s run as the company’s only café under the brand.

Over 300 employees affected by company-wide closure

Although Petite Left Bank was just one of several concepts operated by Vine Hospitality, the company’s shutdown is expected to result in the loss of approximately 365 jobs. Reports indicate many employees learned of the closures shortly before the restaurants stopped serving customers.

The closure also marks another loss for the Bay Area dining scene, where the company’s restaurants had become familiar destinations for celebrations, casual meals and neighborhood gatherings over the past three decades.

Company says operations were no longer sustainable

Vine Hospitality CEO Alistair Levine said the company could no longer operate profitably, citing rising operating costs, ongoing challenges facing the restaurant industry and unsuccessful expansion efforts.

The company has confirmed it has no plans to reopen Petite Left Bank or any of its other restaurant concepts, bringing an end to more than 30 years of hospitality operations in the Bay Area.
