Popular North Carolina restaurant closes, citing increasing costs after years of serving the community

Another well-known Charlotte eatery has served its final customers, adding to the growing list of local restaurants forced to close as operating costs continue to climb.

33rd & Main, a popular seafood restaurant and food truck known for its stuffed seafood egg rolls and Southern-inspired dishes, permanently closed earlier this year. In a farewell message shared on social media, the owners said the decision came after months of rising food and fuel costs made it increasingly difficult to continue operating without compromising the quality customers had come to expect.

A neighborhood favorite

Located on Central Avenue in Charlotte, 33rd & Main built a loyal following with its seafood-focused menu, featuring stuffed seafood egg rolls, crab cakes, shrimp, fish and other comfort food favorites.

Before opening its brick-and-mortar restaurant, the business earned a strong reputation through its food truck, becoming a familiar sight at festivals, breweries and community events throughout the Plaza Midwood and Commonwealth neighborhoods.

Rising costs took their toll

In announcing the closure, the owners said escalating expenses ultimately made the business unsustainable. They explained that rather than reduce portions or lower the quality of ingredients, they chose to close the restaurant.

The farewell message thanked customers for their years of support and reflected on the relationships built with regular guests who had followed the business from its food truck days to its restaurant location.

Part of a larger trend

33rd & Main joins a growing number of NC restaurants that have closed in 2026 as operators continue to navigate higher food, labor, and operating expenses. While some restaurants have shut down because of redevelopment or lease issues, others have cited the increasing cost of doing business as a primary factor behind their decisions.

Although the restaurant has closed, 33rd & Main leaves behind a legacy of memorable meals and community connections. For many Charlotte diners, its signature seafood egg rolls and neighborhood atmosphere helped make it one of the city’s favorite locally owned restaurants.
