There’s nothing quite like the confidence boost that comes from knowing you smell amazing.
As someone who has spent years experimenting with various scents and techniques, I’ve discovered a few key secrets to staying fresh from morning until night.
Whether you’re heading to work, going out for a date, or just want to feel your best, here’s how you can smell good all day long!

Secrets to smelling good all day
1. Start with a clean slate
Good hygiene is the foundation of smelling great. Start each day with a shower, using a natural body wash or soap. Sometimes, I rinse my hair/body with apple cider vinegar to clarify and then rinse again with water. This restores your pH levels and kills off bacteria. Make sure you apply antiperspirant or deodorant right after showering.
2. Hydrate your skin
Did you know that hydrated skin holds fragrance better? After your shower, while your skin is still damp, apply a good moisturizer. I prefer using one with a subtle scent that complements my perfume. This not only keeps your skin soft and smooth but also acts as a base layer that helps your fragrance last longer.
3. Choose your scent wisely
Choosing the right fragrance is crucial. I recommend investing in a high-quality perfume or cologne that complements your natural scent. Look for one with lasting power – typically, eau de parfum has more staying power than eau de toilette, which is watered down. Oil based perfumes also last longer than alcohol-based. Another trick is to pair your perfume with a carrier oil or use a roll-on to help your scent last longer!
4. Layer your fragrances
This is one of my favorite tricks! Layering fragrances can create a more complex and long-lasting scent. Start with a scented body wash and lotion, then apply your perfume. Make sure the scents are either matching or complementary to avoid a clash. For instance, if I’m using a vanilla-scented lotion, I’ll pair it with a warm, spicy perfume for a delicious blend.
5. Apply fragrance strategically
Where and how you apply your fragrance can make a huge difference. I like to spritz my fragrance on pulse points—wrists, behind the ears, and at the base of the throat. These areas emit heat, which helps to diffuse and amplify the scent. Do NOT spray your fragrances on your clothes, as you actually want it to interact with your body’s chemistry.
6. Use hair fragrance oils
Sometimes, I get compliments on smelling good just based on my hair. Don’t use regular perfume or cologne on your hair, as it can be quite drying. Instead, use a hair fragrance oil specifically made for hair! Here are the best smelling nourishing hair oils. Bonus points if the scent matches your body lotion or scented body oil.
7. Pay attention to your clothes
Clean clothes are a must for smelling fresh. I like to add a few drops of essential oil to my laundry or wool dryer balls. Don’t forget to regularly wash items like jackets and scarves, which can absorb and hold onto odors. Also, wearing breathable fabrics like linen helps a ton, especially in the warmer months.
8. Keep fresh throughout the day
I always carry a travel-sized bottle of my perfume, deodorant wipes, and breath mints in my bag. These quick touch-ups can make a big difference, especially after a workout or a long day at work.
