Intro

According to new data from YouGov, Buc-ee’s is not America’s favorite convenience store.
Ok. I said it.
But let me add a big qualifier:
YET.

How we got here

Every quarter, YouGov conducts polling of how Americans view various brands.
Whether they’ve heard of them at all – and whether they have positive or negative views of them.
It’s a good, solid, robust survey as far as these things go.
And from it, we can derive all kinds of fun things.

Like…

Like:
America’s favorite fried chicken.
It’s all in the data!
And of course – they cover lots of convenience stores, so you can see America’s favorite gas station, too.

7-Eleven

Apparently it’s 7-Eleven.
(Which also rated higher than every grocery store on the list, too.)
Which is…definitely a weird outcome!
But it’s simply a function of how many people know it and like it.
I guess a lot of people have had positive experiences at one?
But here’s the thing:
The way this is set up means Buc-ee’s pretty much can’t win.
Yet.

The deck is stacked against Buc-ee’s

Buc-ee’s currently has sixty gas stations throughout all of the USA.
7-Eleven has more than 100x as many – just over 9,000.
Ask anyone who’s been to both 7-Eleven AND Buc-ee’s – I bet you they’ll pick Buc-ee’s.
But so many more people have heard of 7-Eleven because it’s just so much bigger!
Of course, that could be about to change…

Buc-ee’s is growing rapidly

Currently Buc-ee’s is in nine states with, as I mentioned, about 60 stores.
But Buc-ee’s is actually growing quite rapidly, with more than a dozen new stores planned in several new states.
(Including one lucky state poised to get an unprecedented FIVE Buc-ee’s — well, unprecedented outside of Texas, that is.)
And let’s face it…

To know Buc-ee’s is to love Buc-ee’s

Just about everyone who goes to Buc-ee’s ends up loving it.
(Yes, I know, there are a few exceptions here and there.)
From the merch…
To the food…
To the clean bathrooms..
Friendly staff…
Just – the whole experience, all together.

It’s positive!

People love Buc-ee’s for all the reasons I described and more.
And now that Buc-ee’s is expanding, new states (and lots of new people) will get to see how amazing of an experience it is.
And I’m confident that when YouGov is running this same poll (or a similar one) in a few years – we’ll see Buc-ee’s at the top of the list.
Of course, that begs a big question…
