Buc-ee’s is doubling down on Tennessee, but West Tennessee may have to wait a little longer than earlier projections suggested. Current company job listings for the travel center under construction near Gallaway now describe the opening as coming in fall 2027.
That is later than the May 2027 target reported when site work began and more specific than Buc-ee’s public opening schedule, which lists the location only for 2027. It is not a confirmed grand-opening date, but it is the clearest company-generated timing available for the project right now.

The Tennessee timeline has moved again
The West Tennessee store was originally expected to open in summer 2026. Road and infrastructure work pushed that estimate to May 2027, while Buc-ee’s later described the project more broadly as a 2027 opening.
Now several official Buc-ee’s career listings for the location say, “Opening Fall 2027.” The company is recruiting management and human-resources positions well ahead of the eventual opening, another sign that the project remains active despite the slower timeline.
The wording matters. Fall 2027 covers a window rather than a single day, and Buc-ee’s says its estimated opening dates can change. Shoppers should not treat the job-posting language as a firm date until the company announces a grand opening.
Construction and roadwork are advancing
The project is being built near Interstate 40 at Exit 28 and Tennessee State Route 196, roughly 40 minutes east of Memphis. Plans call for a 74,000-square-foot travel center with 120 fueling positions and more than 200 full-time jobs.
Local reporting in September showed crews handling major right-of-way work and changes to the Interstate 40 ramps. October construction images also show the main building taking shape while work continues around parking areas, access roads and utilities.
Those improvements help explain why the opening has taken longer than first expected. A Buc-ee’s of this size needs more than a finished store building; the surrounding roads and entrances also must be ready for the heavy traffic the travel center is expected to attract.
The location will be the first Buc-ee’s in West Tennessee, filling a major gap for Memphis-area travelers. Tennessee’s existing stores are in Crossville and the Sevierville area, both far to the east, while the new project will give drivers across the western side of the state a much closer stop.
What West Tennessee drivers should expect
The Murfreesboro location is expected to open in November 2026, which would make Gallaway the state’s fourth Buc-ee’s if the projects stay in their current order. The new store is expected to carry the familiar mix of barbecue, bakery items, fudge, snacks and branded merchandise alongside its large fueling area.
For now, the safest description is simple: the West Tennessee Buc-ee’s is under construction and targeting fall 2027, but the exact opening day remains unannounced.
