Another familiar restaurant chain is disappearing from Pennsylvania as closures continue to hit casual dining and fast food brands across the state. Several recognizable chains have either shuttered locations or exited Pennsylvania entirely in recent months.
Pennsylvania diners are seeing a growing number of familiar chain restaurants shut their doors as national brands scale back, file for bankruptcy, or abandon struggling concepts altogether. From barbecue chains to tropical-themed casual dining spots, 2026 has brought another wave of restaurant exits across the state.
Bahama Breeze exits PA
One of the biggest names impacted is Bahama Breeze, whose parent company Darden Restaurants announced plans to close or convert all remaining locations nationwide. Pennsylvania locations in King of Prussia and Pittsburgh were among those slated for closure as the company shifts focus toward stronger-performing brands like Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse.
Smokey Bones abruptly disappears
Another major casualty is Smokey Bones, which effectively vanished overnight after parent company FAT Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year. The barbecue chain abruptly shut down all remaining restaurants in April, including Pennsylvania locations, leaving employees and customers with little warning.
The closure marked the end of a once-prominent casual dining brand that had operated for more than two decades and previously expanded to over 100 locations nationwide. Rising debt, declining traffic, and ongoing struggles in the casual dining sector all contributed to the collapse.
Fast food chains are shrinking too
Even fast food brands are pulling back in Pennsylvania. Arby’s recently closed a Lehigh Valley restaurant after only eight years in business, reflecting a broader downsizing trend affecting the roast beef chain nationwide.
Industry analysts say rising labor costs, inflation, weaker consumer spending, and changing dining habits continue to pressure chain restaurants across the country. While some brands are expanding selectively, others are choosing to shutter underperforming locations and focus on markets with stronger sales potential.
